Tutorial 1

Solid Modeling
PRO-E
To create a part, you must draw the cross-section of the part or the model
that you are designing and extrude the part after that.

To do that, you have to create a datum plane first.

Creating datum plane:

In Menu Manager, go to:

_MODE >> Part > Create > (enter filename: tutorial) >Feature >

Create > Datum > Plane > Default

Figure 1: Datum Plane

Drawing Cross-section:

_FEAT >> Create > Solid | Protrusion > Extrude | Solid | Done

_ATTRIBUTE >> One Side | Done

_ SETUP SK PLN >> Setup New > Plane > Pick > (select a datum

plane) (DTM 2) > Okay

_ SETUP SK PLN >> Setup New | Right | Plane > Pick > (select

another datum plane) (DTM 1)

Figure 2: Sketching plane

You have a 2D plane to draw you cross-section.

To sketch the part:

_ SKETCHER >> Sketch > Mouse Sketch (start drawing the part)

You could select Arc, Circle to draw you part.

Dimension the part:

_SKETCHER >> Dimension > Normal > Pick (line on the sketch Ð

left click, drag the mouse to desired area then middle click on the

mouse)

Figure 3: Drawing Cross-section

Be sure to dimension all the properties of the part otherwise you will be
getting error later when you generating (Regenerate command) the parts.

Aligning the parts to datum reference plane:

_SKETCHER >> Alignment > (click on the line that is parallel to

the horizontal datum) > (click on the horizontal datum) (DTM 1)

Repeat for vertical datum. (DTM 2)

--ALIGNED-- message will appear indicating the line is aligned to the
datum.

If you still getting an error message, try to check you dimension (probably
lack of dimension) or your alignment.

Figure 4: Alignment Process

Case 1 Case 2

Case 1

If you drawing is somewhat similar to the case 1, (i.e., where both line
vertical and horizontal line is right exactly on top of the datum line)
alignment command can be used.

Case 2
If you drawing is away from your datum plane (as in Case 2), alignment
command will not work in this case, instead try setting the dimension to the
part from the datum. You could set the dimension to 0 when modify the
dimension., this will set the box back to case 1.

To do that, left click (mouse) on the line and left click (mouse) on the datum
line that is parallel to the line that you highlighted earlier and drag the mouse
to desired area then middle click (mouse).
How Pro-E interpret the alignment command.

From the Pro-E point of view, the box as is free to move in the vertical and
horizontal axis. By setting the alignment, this will fix the position of the box
from the reference axis.

Modifying the dimension:

_SKETCHER >> Modify > Mod Entity > Pick (pick on the

dimension to modify) > (middle click mouse) > (enter value)

Continue until you finish modifying all the dimensions.

Regenerate the parts:

_SKETCHER >> Regenerate

If you have problems regenerating, you probably need more dimensions on

your part or you did not align you part.

Figure 5: After Regenerating

After that:

_SKETCHER >> Done

_SPEC TO >> Blind | Done > (enter depth) > OK (creating 3D

model)

Creating a hole in the parts:

In this section, we will add a hole on the existing part.

_ FEAT >> Create > Solid | Hole > Straight | Done

_ PLACEMENT >> Linear | Done

select the surface

_ GET SELECT >> pick > to place the hole √ >

select 1st surface/edges/axes √

enter the distance

Creating a cut on the parts:

_ FEAT >>Create > Solid > Cut > Extrude | Solid | Done
