UNO (United Nations organizations) is a unique organization of independent

countries that have come together to work for world peace and social progress. The
Organization formally came into existence on 24 October 1945, with 51 countries considered
founding Members. By the end of 2008, the membership of the UN had grown to 192
countries. Since its inception, no country has ever been expelled from membership.

It is an intergovernmental organisation tasked to promote international cooperation

and to create and maintain international order. In addition to maintaining peace and security,
other important objectives include developing friendly relations among countries based on
respect for the principles of equal rights and self-determination of peoples; achieving
worldwide cooperation to solve international economic, social, cultural, and humanitarian
problems; respecting and promoting human rights and various ends.

What is meant by human rights? Human rights are those rights which are essential for us to
live as human beings. Without human rights, we cannot fully develop and use our human
qualities, our intelligence, our talent and our spirituality. The United Nations set a common
standard on human rights for all nations when, in 1948, it adopted the Universal Declaration
of Human Rights. The United Nations (UN) system has two main types of bodies to promote
and protect human rights: Charter Bodies and Treaty Bodies.

Promoting and protecting human rights is one of the objective of UN .In this project we
further study about the role of UNO in protecting these human rights in detail. We will do a
doctrinal type of research. We also study about the creation of UNO, its members, principal
organs of United nations and its main purposes and objectives .And about human rights
,United nations role in protecting them, necessary measures and steps taken by the United
nations e.g United nations declaration of human rights in order to protect them along with
some contemporary issues in detail.
