Statement of Purpose to Pursue Higher Studies

It was once said by a great man, “If God has sent you to explore truth and beauty, then be
bold, be firm and be true. When you shall say; as others do so will I, I renounce, I am
sorry for my early visions, I must eat the food of the land and let learning and romantic
expectations go, until a more convenient season, then dies the man in you, then once
more perish the buds of art and science and poetry, as they have perished before; in a
thousand, thousand men”. Through out my life I have followed these words. I have tried
to keep my aspirations and ambitions alive. Living in a society, which has a lethargic
attitude towards intellectual development, my struggle has been hard, yet fruitful and
extremely rewarding.

For me education has been a very personal experience. Despite the odds, I have tried my
best to gain satisfaction from all my learning endeavors. I completed my bachelor studies
from Punjab University, which is southern Pakistan’s foremost university for imparting
education at this level. My aptitude for finance and management led me to pursue my
graduate degree study at COMSATS Institute of Information Technology and MS
(Finance) from Muhammad Ali Jinnah University, both are ranked amongst the best
schools of finance education.

At CIIT & MAJU, I opted for Finance as major, which was an emerging business
profession in Pakistan, and I found it to be most interesting for me. I have always been
driven by a long standing desire to make an original contribution in the field of finance. I
have a keen interest in investment analysis and portfolio management and its applications
on stock exchange market. This curiosity was assuaged in the study of Stock market
Index, Industry Index, Company Index and the same desire prompts me to pursue further
education in the field. I have rigorously studied courses of Financial Statement Analysis,
Financial Risk Management, Issue in Financial Reporting, Financial Economics,
Corporate Governance, and many other related subjects. Keeping up an inquisitive and
explorative attitude, I tried to put my heart and soul in my MBA & MS degree and it did
prove fruitful for me as I came up with a respectable CGPA & earned Silver Medal and
merit scholarships in various semesters during MBA and MS.

My application to Umeå University, is not only an approach towards further study, but a
petition to enter the culture and legacy of an institute, which has age old traditions of
intellectual excellence. Faculty for Future program at Umeå University would not only
stand as a manifestation of my burning desire for scientific research achievement with
professional competence but would also provide with a unique chance to test my abilities,
to cope with the transition to new settings, enabling me to experience the real and
invaluable benefit of a broader perspective. Further study in related field with and
through Umeå University will help me take a head-start in my career and give me an
opportunity to study from some of the best minds in the field. My education will enable
me to contribute in making the world a better place and in transforming myself into a
better, more enlightened human being and a valuable resource for Umeå University.
