BPR is a business back office resourcing firm based in the North East gold

coast of Metro New York. Our offshore resourcing operations are in the Philippines.

The genesis of the organization is the recognition that community business is a

segment that is still ignored in the business process resourcing (BPR) world. While

BPO has become a business reality and a dominant competitive strategy of large

companies, the Small, Medium Businesses (SMBs) had been lagging on this and their

goal is to fill-in this gap so that they can have the same quality of accounting and

financial reporting capabilities as those of large competitors. With an outsourced

accounting, their clients can focus more on their core business and do what they do

best while saving critical costs and resources at the same time.

Outsourcing in the Philippines is widely known to its big contribution to the

economy as of today. Being one of the leading businesses outside the country and be

one of the in demand in the field of outsourcing. The continuous increase of its

demand, the founder decided to put up outsourcing business in local areas like in

Santiago City, where he aims to be one of the top competitors among all other leading

outsourcing in Metro Manila. The operation was officially started in the mid of 2014

with only 3-4 employees with just a small office space near private school. From then,

it was all falling into places as the founder took initiative to entertain local and foreign

clients where the business established fast growing. It was a roller coaster ride during

the first year of its operation. Year 2015 where the business struggles financially, but

the dedication and hard work was his motivation to fight struggles in business. Instead

of losing hope, the founder decided to engage into IT development both foreign and

local operations. Limited resources for IT development was realized during the

engagement, luckily the founder showed his interest in development and he wants to

pursue it, that’s why he invested so much in it where progress seen going forward.

The success in the engagement of development made BPR known to the region, many

clients were entertained, customer inquiry boosted the business to go forward and

strengthen the development to appease the customer satisfaction and maintain

sustainable customer-employee relationship. Due to client’s stipulation, August 2017

decided BPR to transfer to a more convenient office where they can communicate to

the client efficiently and to have excellent access to internet connection. BPR moved

to the City of Cauayan, where they called “The Ideal City of the North”. It’s been two

years now since BPR migrated to Cauayan City and with that span of two years,

success of the company is still in its outstanding performance. From 4 employees,

now BPR has 16 employees serving the company whole heartedly and professionally.

BPR looking forward to its new venture and challenging roles as it achieved the

vision and goals of the company and that is to be one of the top leading and be the

first well-known outsourcing company located in Region 02.

January 27, 2018 officially change the name into BPR Service Cooperative with the

extent of extending help to others specially to their employees and with the objectives

of providing every employee a privilege to be the owner of the company being one of

the stock holders. Services in the IT development and audit runs smoothly as it is

Services

Their fundamental philosophy is to add value to their clients by providing an

innovative perspective. Designed to help customers on their most challenging goal

this is what differentiates them in the marketplace. They will not only save up to 60%

of the total costs and critical resources, but their approach and trained professionals

will provide with greater flexibility and value that can support business needs and

allow to focus primarily on core competencies as an organization.

They employ the latest technology configuration with the utmost commitment to data

security. They maintain the highest level of standards in preserving confidentiality

and integrity of client’s data by leveraging on technology and their extensive

experience in internal control systems.

Approach

They offer a range of flexible and scalable schemes that are developed to deliver the

most salient elements if not, the whole spectrum of outsourcing needs. They are fully

aware that no two companies are the same, thus every approach is carefully structured

to meet a company’s particular requirements. The following options are available and

may be catered to meet business needs.

1. Full Delivery Mode (Offshore operating model)

This approach allows outsourcing the voluminous and repetitive operational functions

while BPR team manages the day-to-day and interacts directly with the top m

anagement

and various departments. BPR manages the offshore staff work. This approach is ideal

for small businesses as it releases the top management or business owners in

managing the outsourced functions and focus on the core business. This provides

opportunities to clients to have the advantage of highly skilled professionals at the

least possible cost that are not available in maintaining in-house staff.

2. Hybrid Delivery Model (Offshore-Onshore operating model)

BPR are fully aware that synchronized businesses, processes, people, and technology

are essential in maintaining the day-to-day operations. They want to gain a strategic

position in shaping future and take advantage of the opportunities and challenges that

come. Hence, they start by taking into account the requirements that are central to

specific functions. This gives the knowledge that is essential in tailoring the approach

that fully addresses company’s needs.

This approach allows the client and BPR to collaborate on the day-to-day

management of the offshore team. This approach is ideal for mid-size businesses. It

allows the client to maintain a balance U.S. domestic workforce to oversee and

coordinate the outsource functions, serve as a liaison for questions and exceptions,

and concentrate on the high value work to better support top management as they are

released from the voluminous and repetitive transactions inherent to various

operational function. This blended approach allows the offshore team to fully

integrate with the individual clients’ corporate culture, structure, as well as

technology, without interacting directly with top management.

Outsourcing in the Philippines

The Philippines as the Top Knowledge Process Outsourcing Destination

Globalization has made the seamless delivery of information technology (IT) and

business process (BP) services across countries possible. The increasing demand for

IT and business process outsourcing (BPO) services has opened the doors for

emerging IT and BPO destinations such as India, the Philippines, China, and Russia

and was estimated to reach as high as US$180 billion in 2010.

The Philippines, in particular, has emerged from a call center outsourcing destination

to a competitive and top knowledge process outsource (KPO) destination catering to

higher-end services such as accounting, e-commerce, web marketing, web

development, software development, legal services, and others. Not only that clients

reduce and control their operating costs but also, maximize productivity and get high

quality and reliable

University of Perpetual Help System Laguna – Isabela Campus
Minante Uno, Cauayan City, Isabela
College of Business and Accountancy

services. Some factors to be considered in choosing a KPO destination are the quality

of human capital, location, infrastructures, and costs.

Quality of Human Capital

Labor force has been one of the Philippines’ advantages in their region. As reported

by a reliable and reputable international investment consulting firm, the Meta Group,

the Philippines ranked 1st in terms of knowledge-based and skilled workers

availability. In addition, as reported by the Philippine EcoZones Association, the

Philippines is the largest English-speaking population in Asia and 3rd in the world,

offering a large pool of educated and computer-literate manpower that can provide

world-class financial, legal, accounting, and other support services. Aside from

English proficiency, literacy, and educational background, the Philippines’ notable

cultural affinity to the US makes it easier for both parties to conduct businesses.

Strategic Location

The Philippines is strategically located in the heart of Asia and is at the crossroads of

eastern and western businesses, giving critical entry point to more than 500 million

people in the ASEAN market. In addition, to being physically strategically located,

the Philippines has been considered the best outsourcing location because of its

powerful and reliable ICT infrastructure, availability of relatively cheap prime

commercial real estate locations, and low capital cost of qualified personnel.
University of Perpetual Help System Laguna – Isabela Campus
Minante Uno, Cauayan City, Isabela
College of Business and Accountancy

Infrastructure

According to the Asia-Pacific Development Information Programme, “Internet-wise,

the Philippines is part of the US Internet at the end of a very long string across the

ocean.” This statement is based on the observation that foreign traffic, mostly from

US, makes of almost 90% of the consumer’s consumption. In addition, the Global

New e-Economy Index released in 2001 reveal that the Philippines ranked 4th

worldwide in terms of ICT competencies. Though dial-up connection is the

commonly used mode of Internet-connection, the Philippines provide both fixed and

wireless broadband capabilities.

Costs

One of the main reasons why businesses outsource is to save on operating costs

without sacrificing the productivity and quality of output. Outsourcing companies

reveal that businesses who operate on-shore usually achieve cost savings of only 5-

10% while businesses who operate offshore, in the Philippines, through KPO

providers achieve cost savings of 40-60% due to the relatively cheap cost of labor.

Through strategic operation, premium human capital development, and the best

technology platforms, OP’s production facilities in the Philippines will deliver

superior work outputs to provide a solid impact on our clients’ revenue and business

equity.

Reason to Outsource Accounting Services

Since 2005, some businesses have begun outsourcing accounting services at a more

strategic level not just to reduce costs in non-core processes but to improve business

performance as well. This is being driven by a number of factors:

1. Competitive and budgetary pressures

Decreasing budget allowances have forced businesses to evaluate strategies that can

reduce costs in non-core business processes. Outsourcing accounting services have

given businesses better focus working on their resources on core competencies and

activities to attract and retain customers.

2. Advances in technology and communications

Operations are more independent of location than ever before. This is due to rapid

infrastructure improvements and cheaper communication costs. Globalization gives

access to resources and talent world-wide. Internet provides new opportunities to

collaborate with other businesses on a global scale.

3. The need to transform the finance and accounting function

As an overhead, the finance and accounting departments are challenged to become

more efficient and more effective. CFOs must demonstrate adherence to proper

accounting principles and disciplines, and provide improved decision support

capabilities. Outsourcing these services can be used to reduce costs in routine back

office processes and also, increasingly in higher value support services. Outsourcing

can be used to
University of Perpetual Help System Laguna – Isabela Campus
Minante Uno, Cauayan City, Isabela
College of Business and Accountancy

achieve step changes and streamline unnecessarily complex business processes,

systems and structures.

Key Developments in Finance and Accounting Outsourcing

Initially, outsourcing was focused on reducing cost through wage arbitrage by using

cheaper labor abroad. This approach made the relationship with the BPO service

provider adversarial from the outset and often led to disputes and even litigation. In

addition, the scale of the change programmer and the level of project management

resources required were often underestimated.

Finance and accounting outsourcing (FAO) has undergone major transformation over

the last ten years. The need to ensure business systems were Sarbanes-Oxley

compliant encouraged many US corporations to outsource. BPO service providers

gained expertise and credibility in meeting this need.

Some companies are consolidating their outsourcing work, citing reduction in

complexity, streamlining operations and increased efficiency as benefits, while others

are still taking a multi-sourcing route based on particular provider expertise. A further

development is the growing convergence between the procurement and FAO markets.

Globalization opened up new opportunities for companies to outsource finance

activities to service providers worldwide. Companies that choose to outsource one or

more finance or business processes continue to benefit from global disparity in wages

as they access new talent and expertise, such as in systems implementation and

process improvement, to create further competitive advantages.

University of Perpetual Help System Laguna – Isabela Campus
Minante Uno, Cauayan City, Isabela
College of Business and Accountancy

According to the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA),

outsourced service providers have more expertise in negotiating deals than their

clients, so should engage expert consultants at this stage to help starting with

identifying the right provider and getting the right contract. Also, measuring the

performance in outsourcing contracts and determining the appropriate reward systems

and pricing of outsourcing contracts, paying attention to more risk and reward sharing

agreements, should be considered in outsourcing services.

Recently, companies who intend to outsource accounting services favor collaborative

partnership where benefits of business process improvements or new systems

implementation are shared between the company and the provider which appears to be

yielding more satisfactory results and experiences.

Benefits of Outsourcing

The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants recently released a Finance and

Accounting Outsourcing report discussing the pros and cons of outsourcing services

for this field. The report mentioned and elaborated on the following benefits of

outsourcing services as a whole.

1. Cost Reduction

Outsourcing can deliver significant economies of scale by using standardised

processes and leading-edge technology. Suppliers can perform finance and

administration functions far more cheaply and efficiently than companies working on

their own. Companies can

University of Perpetual Help System Laguna – Isabela Campus
Minante Uno, Cauayan City, Isabela
College of Business and Accountancy

reduce working capital, improve tax efficiency and avoid capital expenditure by

outsourcing some or all of their operations.

2. Radical Transformation

As a strategic move, outsourcing can enable broad structural change which creates

value while supporting corporate objectives.

3. Access to Superior Capabilities and Expertise of the Provider

Businesses can develop long term strategic relationships or partnerships with their

providers. They can benefit from superior capabilities, best practice expertise and new

investment in resources that a specialist provider can bring to their business.

Release of Capacity for Remaining Finance Function to Provide Business

Partnering

Outsourcing of finance processes to providers with greater expertise and economies of

scale can deliver large efficiency gains to the overall performance of the finance

function. This allows the retained finance function to concentrate on their role as

business partners, working more closely with the business to improve decision

making.

Increased Innovation

Low value, non-core processes and activities are moved to an external provider.

Companies can release internal resources to focus on more strategic activities – a key

College of Business and Accountancy

source of competitive advantage. Businesses that deploy an outsourcing model can

shift internal resources from operations to innovation.

Corporate Identity

The Business Process Resourcing (BPR) is a business's back office resourcing

firm based in the North East gold coast of Metro New York. The offshore resourcing

operations are located in the Philippines. The genesis of the organization is the

recognition that community businesses are a segment that is still ignored in the

CHAPTER III
ASSESSMENT OF PRACTICUM
PROGRAM
University of Perpetual Help System Laguna – Isabela Campus

College of Business and Accountancy

During the duration of my stay at BPR, I learned a lot of things, not only the

things that are related to my chosen profession but also the things that are very helpful

in molding me to become a better individual. While working as a trainee, I was able to

become more patient in everything I do and even became a more hardworking

individual. The ability to finish assigned task on time is important but the ability to

finish correctly and accurately should be prioritized.

The training I had in BPR enabled me to learn in every day experiences. I was

exposed in the actual work of competent auditors and programmers. I became familiar

with the documents prepared by the auditors. I became more sociable and able to

adjust myself with the environment of my working place and with the people around

it.

This one of a kind learning experience enabled me to be more accurate in

following instructions and do them abruptly, carefully and correctly. I also learned

how to admit and accept mistakes and failures. Learning from these failures and

mistakes is good but learning from the mistakes of others had more impact to me.

This is to prevent myself from committing mistakes that were already committed and

had been corrected.

This training also enabled me to appreciate even the simplest lessons thought

in school. I was able to realize the importance of theories and basic GMRC’s as I was

exploring the corporate world. Understanding everything that is being taught in school

can be significant tool into becoming an effective and efficient individual in my future

careers.

CHAPTER IV
CONCLUSIONS AND
RECOMMENDATIONS

College of Business and Accountancy

On-the-Job Training is not only a requirement to be adhered to but also an

opportunity to show and to apply the knowledge and learning that you acquire and to
unleash your potentials. It is also an opportunity to experience life after getting your
degree, facing a bigger and more challenging world of opportunities and chances.

It made me realize that knowing what you’re doing and willingness to do it as

well isn’t the best way to value your work; rather, you must do it with love and
passion. Loving your work makes it more valuable and worth working for. As a
student, all I can do for now is to learn all the things that should be learned in school,
be inspired, love and value the path I am taking and do the best in everything that I do
with all positivity and proper mindset.

BPR Service Cooperative was indeed and excellent company for my training.

Apart from giving me challenging works, we maintained the good relationship we

established when we first met. They taught me to be more open and closer to our

Lord above by doing the once a week cradle.
