of sales department, my respectable senior staffs and of course my beloved colleagues. Today I would like to
seek your attention to a small idea that might bring you huge result. This tiny idea that I would like to address
today is about having Business writing classes in our company.

Ladies and gentlemen,

Do you know that employees like us often spend up to three hours each day struggling to express our thoughts
and ideas in writing? With awkward sentence structure, poor organization, and murky language, most written
communication failed to be delivered due to information clutter. In order to boost business competitiveness, we
must cut through the clutter and communicate clearly. For that reason, I believe that the best and the only way
to do so is by going through a series of business writing classes. By having good business writing skills we can not
only enhance our image, but also increase our confidence, boost our productivity, and achieve our objectives.

These business classes are designed for proficient writers of English who wish to apply their knowledge of
English efficiently in the business world. As these classes focus on grammar and the preparation, writing and
editing of a variety of business correspondence, as well as providing required knowledge of style, organization
and format, I strongly believe that after having business writing classes we could be a much better businessman
and our organization will greatly benefit from this.

Ladies and gentleman,

I strongly urge all the ladies and gentleman on the floor to give a thought about these business classes. We are

Subject : Donations for “Mercy-Aids Flood”

As we are all aware last week a terrible storm had hit many areas in Pahang and Johor. This storm was then
turned into a great flood that had devastated many towns and villages. Thousands have lost their precious
homes and belongings, while thousands more are fleeing and seeking shelters from the authorities. This is
indeed a great test for the nations and to fellow Malaysians as well. Thus, Semporna Jaya Sdn Bhd is organizing
an event called “Mercy-Aids Flood” to collect donations and contributions for the flood victims.

For your information, this “Mercy-Aids Flood” event will be held on 20th until 25th of August 2013, in the
Semporna Jaya Convention Hall. The event will start from 8.00am until 5p.m. There is no limit to how much or
what do you want to donate. We will take all sorts of donations, either cash money, cheque or items such as rice,
food, drinks, and clothes and so on. For those who wish to donate money you may do so by visiting the counter
8, 9 and 10 in the Semporna Jaya Convention hall during the event. You may also wire the money to Maybank
account number 7162 821, under the name of “Mercy Semporna” starting today. However please take note that
the deadline for money contribution is on 25th of August 2013.

(A) The main difference between a solicited application letter and an unsolicited one is whether the company
receiving the letter announced a job opening or not. If the company announced an opening, the letter is
considered solicited because it was asked for. If the company had not asked for applications, the letter is
considered unsolicited. The goal of a solicited application letter is to obtain an interview for a specific job
position which the writer mentions in the letter. When a person writes an unsolicited letter, she hopes that the
company has any position, within a certain area, available. This letter is more general and the writer states that
she is applying, for example, to any type of managerial position within the company.

I am an interior designer. I am actively seeking a new position at this time, and I thought that Semporna Jaya Sdn

2.0 Site Assessment

The proposed area is located at the northwest of Sungai Beranang, 500 meters from the main bridge of
Beranang. To get here, one may travel from Tawau taking the north expressway heading to Semporna and exit
at Beranang. One may also take the Lahad Datu-Semporna expressway and exit at Sungai Nibong before heading
west to Sungai Tohok.

The proposed area is close to a few infrastructure and services. There is a primary school 3km away and a
secondary school 4 km away. The nearest town would be Semporna Town which is only 5 km away. In this town
there are basic infrastructures such as banks ( BSN, Maybank, Agro and Citibank), bus stations, 4 stars hotels and
supermarkets (Giant Supermarket, Gmart and Century). There are also a government hospital and a few private
clinics in the town. Postal services are also available here in Semporna town, with providers such as Pos Malaysia,
Gdex and DHL Express. In terms of telecommunication and internet coverage, the coverage of Maxis and Digi are
poor while Celcom is excellent in the proposed area. Through Celcom, one can have access to the internet via 3G
connections.

3.0 Recommendation

After surveying the area, I strongly believe that the proposed area is ideal for our company’s 150 units of 2 story
terrace houses project. The land here is not too soft and not filled with giant rocks. The area is not polluted by
factories or deforestation and therefore is an ideal place for people to start up their new home. Moreover, this
proposed area is near surrounded by beautiful scenery of Bukit Beranang and Pantai Beranang. This would
attracts potential buyers and greatly increase the houses’ value. Last but not least, the proposed area is closed
to a town and able to acquire all the basic facilities. I believe that within a few years time this area will merge
with Semporna town and become a big city.
