ANALYSIS AND DESCRIPTION

1. I have a substantial amount of back pay money


 Locution (the utterance) : I have a substantial amount of back pay money
 Illocution (the meaning) : an act of offering the hearer to ask for money, borrows
some money, or has a dinner treat, depending on the context.
 Perlocution (reaction) : the hearer asks for some money, borrows some money, or
asks for a dinner treat.

2. You have eye inflammation


 Locution (the utterance) : You have eye inflammation
 Illocution (the meaning) : an act of ordering the hearer to go to an ophthalmologist to
have eye examination or to treat the eye, depending on the context.
 Perlocution (reaction) : the hearer goes to an ophthalmologist or treats the eye.

3. This room is very hot


 Locution (the utterance) : This room is very hot
 Illocution (the meaning) : asking to someone to open the door or the window or turn
on the air conditioner.
 Perlocution (reaction) : (the hearer) has done the action based on this statement, for
instance to open the door or window or turn on the air conditioner

4. I will come to your party”


 Locution (the utterance) : I will come to your party Amy promises Peter to come to his
party
 Illocution (the meaning) : promises to someone to come frind’s party
 Perlocution (reaction) : (the hearer) has done the action based on this statement, that
the hearer will come to friend’s party

5. Could you pass me the sugar, please?


 Locution (the utterance) : Could you pass me the sugar, please?
 Illocution (the meaning) : asking to someone to pass the sugar
 Perlocution (reaction) : (the hearer) has done the action based on this statement, that
the hearer give /pass the sugar to someone
6. Sorry… we never forbit you to smoke in this room but please swallow the smoke.
 Locution (the utterance) : The act of uttering sentence with a certain meaning
“Sorry… we never forbit you to smoke in this room but please swallow the smoke”
 Illocution (the meaning) : the warning marker wants to forbid everyone to not have
smoke there. Second, conversely, they permit everyone to have a smoke in that room
only if they do not throw the smoke out.
 Perlocution (reaction) : the hearer from the utterance uttered by the speaker. In this

case, there will be two things might happen.First, the speech act is succeeded done in
which the hearer understand the meaning of that warning so that they will not smoke there.
Second, the speech act is failed in which the hearer might ignore this warning and insists to
have a smoke due to the politeness words used in that sign

7. Teacher: Would you close the door, please?


 Locution (the utterance) : this utterance is a question to student (Close the door.)
 Illocution (the meaning) : a request to one of student to close the door
 Perlocution (reaction) : expresses the speaker’s desire that the hearer( students)
should go and close the door

8. I am cold.
 Locution (the utterance) : this utterance is a question with a clear content (Close the
door.)
 Illocution (the meaning) : a request from the part of the speaker
 Perlocution (reaction) : expresses the speaker’s desire that the hearer should go and
close the door

9. Teacher : Hari Jumat ini ujian semester genap”


 Locution (the utterance) : the utterance and the declarative nature of it.
 Illocution (the meaning) : ask to students to study hard at home, so the stdents get a
good value
 Perlocution (reaction) : (the hearer) has done the action based on this statement, that
the hearer study hard at home
10. Student : Tugas individu saya sudah selesai Bu.
 Locution (the utterance) : the utterance spoken by student to the speech partner
(teacher)
 Illocution (the meaning) : a report that he has finished working on the individual
assignments ordered
 Perlocution (reaction) : (the hearer) has done the action based on this statement , the
teacher allowed him to leave the class because his assignment was finished done well
