Country Profile: Canada

1. Geography

Canada is located in North America, with its bordering countries being Alaska in the west

and the US in the south. The capital of Canada is Ottawa, in the state of Ontario. Canada is

known for having snowy winters, where people trouble through snow, and shovel snow off their

driveways. But some people aren’t too familiar as to how it is in the summer. Canada in the

summer can reach from anywhere to 68 to 77 degrees Fahrenheit, 77 degrees behind that highest.

As I said, Canada is known for having snowy winters and very cold weather, but it gets a lot

colder than you think. Canada can reach from anywhere to 25 through 5 degrees Fahrenheit in

the winter! Imagine us San Diegans being in Canada through the winter, where 65 degrees is

cold for us! Although Canada is still relatively cold, it's getting hotter due to climate change.

This has caused Canada some problems such as habitat loss, for land and water animals due to

the drier soils. With the climate getting warmer, this will force agriculture further north. This will

eventually hurt Canadians throughout time. With the agriculture moving farther, this will cause

their food supply to slowly get lower and lower. This will affect Canada's economy of being a

major natural resource supplier.

2. Politics
Canada 2

Canada isn’t that far from being exactly like the US, even though Canada is very

peaceful. Even though Canada shares some laws with the US, there are some laws put in place

that make Canada so peaceful. To start to understand why Canada is so peaceful, we have to talk

about the way it is run. Canada runs under a federal parliamentary system under democracy,

exactly like the UK! Not only does Canada run under the same system as the UK it also has a

very similar elective system as America. This makes sense when you see that Canada has very

close alliances with both of these counties. The head of state is currently Queen Elizabeth II, just

like the UK. Even though Queen Elizabeth II is the head of state, she isn’t the one who governs

over Canada, that role belongs to Justin Trudeau, the prime minister of Canada. Canada is

currently its own independent country but they used to be controlled by the British Empire.

Although Canada was its own country in 1862 it was still being controlled by said British

Empire. Over time, Canada was fighting for its independence to be free from the Empire. In the

year 1931 Canada signed the Statute of Westminster, Canada's very own declaration of

independence. Since then, Canada has built its laws and customs on their very own. It because of

these laws and norms that makes \Canada, Canada.

3. Economy

Canada's economy is generally built off it's abundance of natural resources. In 2017, it

was recorded that Canada's GDP, Gross Domestic Product, was $1,653T. Petroleum is one of

Canada's main exports with an annual production of 3.2M barrels a day. Another one of

Canada’s top exports is vehicles with $10.4B worth of car parts. Canada has a history for being

the world leader in production of a large amount of natural resources such as diamonds, gold,

nikkel and many more. Because of Canada's large amount of resources it only makes sense for

them to trade with other countries such as the US, the EU, and China. These 3 countries are

Canada's most frequent traders. Even though Canada's top export in Petroleum oil, there are still

some major problems that Canada is facing because of oil. These problems mostly affect the

wildlife around them, and the civilians of Canada. As we all know pollution is very bad for the

environment and how it can affect the wildlife and the air around us. Canada is currently being

hurt by this. Canadas is mostly filled with trees and with those trees a whole lot of different

variety of animals but all of those beautiful forest filled with wondrous animals will soon be

gone if they don’t do anything about it. Luckily for Canada they have a person with a lot of

power trying to help their land, Justin Trudeau. Justin Trudeau is raising the prices for resources

such as oil, to prevent such resources from causing pollution in Canada.

4. Daily Life

A very important staple to canada is to be as nice and peaceful to everyone no matter

what. The citizens of Canada are often very kind, the reason to this is becauses of their culture.

In Canada it is a custom respectful. Being respectful can take you a long way and if you are

respectful and it really shows in Canada. Enough talking about how Canada has very kind people

we already know that, let's get more statistical. The population of Canada is 36.71M as recorded

in 2018. The life expectancy in Canada is 80 for the males and 84 for the females, 4 whole years

longer than the males. The infant mortality rate is 4.5 deaths out of 1000 live births. The most

prominent religion in Canada is Christianity while 23 percent of Canadians don’t follow a

religion. Canada has two official languages English being one, and French being the other. Both

of these languages are used the most making them the two official languages. 99 percent of

Canadians can read and it has stayed that way for over 10 years!
