ATHLETICS

All points described for right handed throwers Tick when complete

1. Ensure you have the correct grip (see diagram - finger tips holding edge of dicsus).

2. Stand at back of throwing circle, facing away from direction of throw.

3. Make your body into a ‘Twisted T’ position rotating throwing arm as far back as possible.

4. Shift body weight over to right foot and bend legs slightly.

5. Rotate body leaving discus behind as you rotate (your arm will follow).

6. Run across circle placing right foot into centre of circle (you should feel a spinning motion).

7. Pick up left foot and place it at front of circle ready to throw. SAFETY
8. Legs rotate before arms (momentum from rotation increases throwing distance). - Don’t throw until area is
clear
- Observer - watch
9. When feet are ready powerfully extend legs throwing area for any
changes as thrower will
be facing away.
10. Drive the hips, then chest, then arms last and fast. - Stretch before throwing.

11. Release discus and try to stay in throwing circle as to not commit foul.
