DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN ENGLISH 10

(March 13, 2019)

I. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
a. distinguish the important points from the less important ones in
formulating guide questions;
b. contruct guide questions about a topic of their choice;
c. identify the stages in conducting a good interview; and
d. explain the importance of interview as a method in making a
research.

II. Subject Matter:

a. Topic: Interview (stages, guide, advantages & disadvantages,

relevance)
b. Reference: Celebrating Diversity through World Literature by Liza R.
Almonte, et. al, page 435
c. Materials: PowerPoint Presentation, video & pictures-clips, mock-up
III. Procedure:

Teacher’s Activity Learner’s Activity

a. Routine Activities
 Prayer
 Checking of Attendance
 Review

b. Motivation

Do you know the following - I’m a big fan of Jungkook so I

people in the picture? What do you want to ask what will be his ideal
want to ask them? girl.
- I heard that Liza and Enrique are
already a couple, so I want to ask
what were the reason behind
their secret relationship.
- Everyone knows Vice Ganda and
everyone wants to ask if he sees
Calvin as a future boyfriend.
- Jake Cyrus, What do you want to
say to your former self as Charice?

What will be your approach? - Conduct an “INTERVIEW”

Now, you’re going to watch
a video-clip on the famous
interviewers in the Philippines.

After watching the clip, who - For me, Boy Abunda is a genius in
do you think is a better interviewer? prying from people what is
Soho or Abunda? What made you supposed to be private and
say so? innermost. But he does it in a funny
and human way, of course. It is
only later that you realize what he
did was a subtle inquisition, but
while he was doing it you were
totally engrossed. Boy was a
combination of Larry King and
Oprah, yet distinctly Boy Abunda.

- I think Jessica Soho serve as

keynote in the interview which she
made it more engaging both to
the interviewee and the
audience. She made it a point
that the interviewee is
comfortable and the questions
are interesting.

c. Presentation of the Lesson

Boy Abunda and Jessica

Soho are the most formidable
interviewers on Philippine television.
Today, we will talk about the stages
on how to conduct a good interview.
But first, I want you to go to your
respective group and find the
envelopes that have a puzzle.

After 2 minutes of
searching, each group will attach
the puzzle on the chart according to
the color of the envelope that they
found.
d. Development of the Lesson

The pictures that you

formed relate to conducting a good
interview. Will you guess what those
pictures try to illustrate?

Picture No. 1
- Picture 1 illustrates the stages in
conducting an interview. The
arrow symbolizes the steps and
the mics are usually used in
conducting an interview.

Here are the stages in

conducting a research
interview:
Stage 1: Determine what
information is required. What do
you want to find out?
Stage 2: Decide on the
audience for the interviews e.g.
students, library staff, academics.
Stage 3: Draft the interview
schedule
Stage 4: Pilot/Test the interview
with colleagues or a sample of
potential interviewees and revise
as necessary
Stage 5: Conduct the interviews
Stage 6: Transcribe interviews
Stage 7: Analyze the transcripts
Stage 8: Write up, present and
use the findings

Picture No. 2

- The dog in the picture illustrates as

a guide of the blind man. If we’re
going to connect it in our topic, it
is the interview’s guide.

Interview guide summarizes the

content that researchers cover
during interviews. At one extreme,
it may provide very minimal
directions, leading to “less
structure” interviews that are
designed primarily to explore the
participant’s own perspective on
the research topic. At the other
extreme, interview guides may
contain elaborate specifications
to ensure that the researcher’s
topics of interest are thoroughly
covered.

Picture No. 3

- The picture tries to show the

advantages and disadvantages
of interview as a method. The
measurements are not equal
which strengthen my belief that it
is all about the merits and
demerits.
Here are the main
advantages and
disadvantages in using
interview as a method:
Advantages
 useful to obtain detailed
information about personal
feelings, perceptions and
opinions
 allow more detailed questions to
be asked
 respondents' own words are
recorded
 ambiguities can be clarified and
incomplete answers followed up
Disadvantages
 they can be very time-
consuming: setting up,
interviewing, transcribing,
analyzing, feedback, reporting
 they can be costly
 different interviewers may
understand and transcribe
interviews in different ways.
Picture No. 4

- I think this picture illustrates the

actual performance of an
interview. The hand of the
interviewer records the
statements of the interviewee as
seen in the photo.

Will you give me the reason why

- Interviews are a useful method
interview is useful as a method in
to:
making a research?
 investigate issues in an in
depth way
 discover how individuals think
and feel about a topic and
why they hold certain opinions
 investigate the use,
effectiveness and usefulness
of particular library collections
and services
 inform decision making,
strategic planning and
resource allocation
 sensitive topics which people
may feel uncomfortable
discussing in a focus group
 add a human dimension to
impersonal data
 deepen understanding and
explain statistical data.
There are two different
accepted methods in making
a research. These are
quantitative and qualitative
research studies. Both methods
can be used to test
hypotheses by carrying out
investigations with groups of
participants, but they achieve
that in different ways. Interview
is under qualitative methods,
the goal isn’t to find wide
generalization but to identify
and analyze specific
phenomenon and consider its
possible implications. While
quantitative methods relies
solely on numerical data which
are analyzed using various
statistical methods, and the
researcher may not have to
ever talk to any participants
face-to-face.

e. Application

Now, they’re going to

formulate guide questions to the
person they want to ask. Follow-up
questions must be asked whenever
necessary. Use the template as your
guide in writing your guide questions

f. Generalization

From your own

perspective, what is the importance
of interview as a method in making - There are many methods that can
a research? be used in making a research but
despite of that, if we just look at
the main goal of the interview
method we can develop many
things like:
 Listening Skill
 Critical Thinking
 Art of Questioning
 Good Posture
 Professionalism
IV. Evaluation

The teacher will present a video-clip about a business man conducting

an interview. Then, the students will write in their big notebook the stages
that the man skipped during his interview.

V. Assignment

Conduct an interview to a person who is successful in Manaoag. Write

their answers in a short coupon bond along with the date, time, and place.
Allow them to put their signature below their answers for evidence.

After you found the envelope, you're going to post it on the chart according to the color of the
envelope( if the color of the envelope is pink you should attach it on the color pink chart)

If the group is done they should shout their cheer.

2 minutes will be allotted for your group activity.
