Title of Proposed Study Marawi Refugee Crisis: An Effect of
Terrorism in the Philippines

Introduction

Terrorism has always been a global concern for different countries. It has
several origins. One of which is Islamic extremism which has influence a lot of
Muslims, particularly the Filipino Muslims to spark a war in the name of their
religion which should not be the case.

On May 23, 2017, the members of the ISIS group who are headed by the
Maute family, have initiated a war against the Philippine government by
forcibly occupying Marawi City. This has caused a number of problems to the
Filipino people, especially the Marawi residents. Due to this, at least 98 percent
of the total population of the Marawi city, as well as residents from nearby
municipalities were displaced or compelled to leave as based on the statistics of
the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
