Chapter 1

Activism
What is activism? Activism is when someone tries to make a
change in our society, that change leaning more towards the
government or environmental,(there are many other categories). For
example, protesting about women's rights or Gay marriage. These
people try to show the people that disagree with them that some of
these things are okay.
They are trying to make their point very clear. If you do not stand
with the topic I have chosen then I think you should research more
about it, because these people are working very hard to show how
important it is to them. They also stand up for the people that fall
beneath what they are fighting for.
In this day and age, there are so many things you can protest or
stand with that if you choose to, you could participate in activism also.
Chapter 2

Teen Activism
Teen activism is very similar to activism besides the
fact that it in teen activism it is someone 18 or younger
standing up for their beliefs. Which can be very scary for
some adults, but can you imagine being 14 and confronting
big topics that people disagree on? Some parents don’t let
their child because they don’t want their child to be a target
for someone who strongly disagrees with their child beliefs
(Malala and others). Jazz Jennnings is a very powerful and
inspiring teen activist because she started when she was
just 10 years old!
Chapter 3

Jazz Jennings

“I’ve always known who I am. I was a girl trapped in a boys body.”

This was said by Jazz Jennings when she was 14 years old. She
is now called the public face of transgender children. Throughout the
years, Jazz has become an activist for transgender children. She is
the youngest transgender girl that has been documented so far. She
got more attention when she went on an interview with Barbra Walters
where she talked about her story and her show called I Am Jazz. She
talks about her struggles being transgender on the show but also the
amazing things about being transgender.

She doesn’t think that she is worthy to be on a list with Malala or

other amazing people; when she should definitely be on there along
with them. She is an amazing beautiful inspiration. She inspires many
little boys or girls that are going threw a similar path she went.
Chapter 4

How She Helped

Jazz Jennings is considered the face of transgender
children all over the world. She has showed even though
there is a lot of judgement about being transgender that it
can be an amazing experience. The judgement is not only
for Jazz, a lot of it is about her parents. When her parents
heard that they responded to it by saying,”Well I don’t
really care what they think.” In her case she has very
supportive parents, but a lot of kids don’t so she goes onto
social media spreading love and support to all of those
kids that don’t have support from their families.

Some people, maybe even you, think that it’s not that big of a
deal to show support for someone. However, in the LGBTQ+
community and the transgender community a lot of people need any
type of support from anyone. Jazz also has a charity called the Purple
Rainbow Foundation. You can dontate some money to help some kids
that are going threw a transition.

Her parents knew that when she was a girl when she would say,
I’m a girl that it means I’m not a boy. They knew she wasn’t going
through a phase because they then figured out when she was 6 that
she was one of the youngest transgender kids known/documented.
This means at a young age Jazz was already standing up for her
rights as a transgender child which inspired a lot of other transgender
people to come out and say whatever they needed to say.
