0 WARNINGS
Any damage caused by failure to observe the indications in this manual or by incorrect
machine use shall exempt Ravaglioli S.p.A. from all liability.

0.1 Preliminary safety information

Before starting up the appliance:
• Read the instructions and the entire manual before using or working on the wheel aligner.
This manual is an integral part of the product. Its aim is to provide the user with
instructions on how to operate the wheel aligner RAV TD8060TWS/TWSR and RAV
TD8080TWS/TWSR. Look after the manual for the entire working life of the machine and
keep it in a place that is known and easily accessible. Refer to it every time you have any
doubts. All product operators must be able to read the manual.
• Make sure the power supply is in conformity with the specifications shown on the plate.
The plate showing voltage and frequency details is positioned on the rear of the appliance.
Please read this plate carefully. NEVER connect the appliance to a power source with
voltage or frequency different to those shown.
• Adequately position the power cable of the wheel aligner. The machine features a 3-pin
plug with integrated ground. This can only be fitted in a socket that also has a ground
point. If it is not possible to fit the plug into this type of socket, contact an electrician. Do
not try modifying or using the plug incorrectly.
On switching off the machine:
• Never switch off the PC inside the machine by disconnecting the plug or by means of the
PC switch itself. Always follow the procedure described in para. 4.2 on page 15. Incorrect
PC switch-off can "corrupt" the files inside the HARD-DISK.
• The switch-off procedure described in para. 4.2 on page 15 does not affect the measuring
head recharging supports which therefore continue to be energised.
In emergency conditions and before any maintenance jobs:
• Isolate the machine from any power sources by means of the master switch and
disconnect the plug from the power socket.
• Do not try servicing the machine arbitrarily because the opening and removal of the doors
could expose you to hazardous voltages; maintenance jobs must only be performed by
authorised after-sales service personnel.
Working environment and cleaning the machine:
• The working environment must be kept clean, dry and not exposed to atmospheric agents
and must be well lit.
• Do not clean the machine with jets of water and compressed air.
• To clean the plastic panels or shelves, use a damp cloth (avoid using liquids containing
solvents).

RAVAGLIOLI S.p.A. shall be entitled to make any changes to the models described in this manual
for technical or commercial reasons.

3.7 Sensors
The sensors of the RAV TD8060TWS/TWSR and RAV TD8080TWS/TWSR unit require no
cable connections for angle measurement. The measurement units consist of infra-red data
transceivers and CCD type transducers with infra-red emission focal point.

All the characteristic angles of both vehicle axles are controlled by CCD sensors (6 sensors
for the TD8060TWS/TWSR serie and 8 sensors for TD8080TWS/TWSR serie) and infra-red
transmission.
Data transmission between the infra-red sensors is effective even in critical lighting
conditions.

Data transmission of the front measuring heads is VIA RADIO by means of modules
housed inside the front measuring heads and the console.

The rear sensors do not communicate directly with the console. Their data are
transmitted/received through the infra-red transmission of the front sensors [see para. 3.7.3
on page 10).

Power is supplied by rechargeable 6V long-life batteries; recharging of front and rear

measuring heads is done through the supports for recharging the batteries of the measuring
heads located on the console.

For all the sensors featuring rechargeable batteries, the power and consumption data are as
follows:

3.8.4 Run out for vehicles with clamp STDA30E

In the event of the operator wishing to use the truck wheel clamps STDA30E on a motor-
vehicle, great care must be taken as these are very long compared to the vehicle clamps . At
the end of the run out procedure and when lowering the wheels, the clamp could touch the
floor and consequently move or break thus affecting the result of the following tests.
During the run our procedure, the screen shows an instruction to turn the wheel, taking as
reference the knob, indicated by the flashing point.
By following this procedure, the run out terminates with the clamp in vertical position (knob
at top) and the clamp touches the floor when lowering the wheels.
To prevent this, take as turning reference not the knob but a point of the wheel shifted by 90°
with respect to the knob (see Figure 9 and Figure 10), so the procedure terminates with the
clamp in horizontal position.

measuring head. Acquisition of measurements.

Figure 10

NOTE: The wheel clamps must all be horizontal when lowering the vehicle, once the run out
procedure has terminated.
This way, during the measuring head ALIGNMENT AND LEVELLING STAGE, it will not be
possible to level the clamps, but if clamps STDA30E (para. 3.8.1 on page 11) are used on a
vehicle it will NEVER be necessary to shift the movable crosspiece of the clamp downwards
because the size of the wheels of a vehicle will never block the measuring head signal.

Turn the steering from left to right, or vice versa, until the wheels are aligned, meaning until
the display unit level is perfectly at centre.
Regulate the sensors until they are levelled and brake them by means of the knobs provided.
This operation must be done for all four sensors;
The sensors also feature special indicators consisting of 3 LEDs (para. 3.7.4 page 10) which
flash according to how the sensors are levelled.
NOTE: the rear sensors RAV TD8060TWS/TWSR do not feature electronic levellers. Perform a
sight check to ensure they are level.

If the front wheels are excessively misaligned, levelling will not be shown on the screen.

NOTE: After performing the alignment operations and levelling the sensors, the "STOP"
signal indicators appear underneath the alignment level display unit. These indicate
the program is acquiring vehicle data measurements. At this point, sensor
calibration control is also performed. The program only proceeds automatically after
the sensors have been aligned and levelled.

IMPORTANT: If the vehicle on which work is being carried out features a front spoiler that
prevents the sensors from communicating with each other, then the special "spoiler"
procedure is started.
Following the graphic representation that appears on the screen, the front sensors must be
lowered so the transducers at the end of the arm are positioned underneath the spoiler. The
system acquires the toe-in measurement, after which the alignment and levelling procedure
shown in Figure 32 is represented again. At this point, align and level. The program will now
proceed automatically.

8.11 Front axle adjustment

The procedure for adjusting the front axle can be obtained by selecting "Total adjustment" or
"Adjustment of front axle only" on the test page (see para. 8.8 page 30) and performing the
operations for the preparation of adjustment(see para. 8.9 page 31).
The recommended sequence of the angles to be adjusted is: CASTER – CAMBER – TOE-IN.

IMPORTANT: Once the caster values have been adjusted, or if these are not adjusted and are taken
to be correct, it is best to "freeze" the above values. Such procedure prevents the caster values from
changing if the sensors are accidentally moved.
To do this, the measurement selection red frame (see Figure 37) must be moved to caster values and
the centre key of the front sensor must be pressed; a grid will appear above the caster values to
indicate these have been "frozen".
It is also possible to proceed so the caster values are already frozen by entering this phase,
selecting "YES" in the "automatic caster freezing" option of the "general parameters" menu (see
Figure 17). To “unfreeze”, proceed as indicated above.
Note. If the selection frame is moved to the camber values and the central sensor key is pressed, the
camber values will be frozen.
If on the other hand, the frame is moved to toe-in values and the central sensor key is pressed, the
"Jack Hold" procedure will be accessed (adjustment with wheels lifted) of the front axle only.

11 MEASURING HEADS ERRORS

11.1 Data receiving-transmission error between measuring heads and
console
During the data transmission/receiving between measuring heads and the console, the following
display page could appear:

Figure 47
This means that there is a transmission/receiving fault due to one or more of the following
reasons:
 There is an interruption of the cables and/or in the connectors on the connection between
front sensors and console.
 There is an obstacle (e.g. door of vehicle open) between front/rear sensors.
The rear measuring heads fail to communicate directly with the console: their data are
transmitted/received passing through the front measuring heads. So, if a front sensor is defective,
it cannot transmit/receive data from the rear sensor, even though it is working properly.
If the cause of the error is removed (e.g. the vehicle door is closed) the error display page
immediately disappears and the measuring page again appears on the screen. If the error persists
it will be necessary to check the hardware of the system, after switching off the apparatus. Of
course it is never a good thing to suddenly cut the power supply to the console. The correct
switch-off procedure should always be followed:
 Press the key “Esc” on the keyboard to return to the presentation page (chap. 8 page 21).
 Proceed to switch off the equipment as usual (see para. 4.2 page 15).

11.2 Horizonatal plane angle measuring error

During infra-red data measurement, the following display pages could appear:
Flashing arrows

Flashing arrows

(01/2014)

These two error display pages show that one or more infrared measurements on the horizontal
plane, cannot be made.
The reasons for this could be numerous:
 One or more CCD sensors (digital infrared transducer for the horizontal angle
measurements) are not working.
 There is an obstacle (e.g. vehicle door open) between front/rear sensors.
 There is an obstacle between the left and right front sensors (eg. front vehicle spoiler very
large or very low).
 There is an obstacle between the left and right rear sensors (eg. exhaust pipe).

If the cause of the error is remedied (e.g. the vehicle door is closed) the error display page
immediately disappears and the measurement page again appears on the screen. If the error
persists it will be necessary to check the hardware of the system, after switching off the
apparatus. Of course it is never a good thing to suddenly cut the power supply to the console. The
correct switch-off procedure should always be followed:

 Press the key “Esc” on the keyboard to return to the presentation page (see chap. 8 page 21).
 Proceed to switch off the equipment as usual (see para. 4.2 page 15).

13 MAINTENANCE
IMPORTANT! Before performing any maintenance jobs on the machine, disconnect this from the
power mains by means of the master switch.

To clean the plastic panels or shelves use alcohol (IN ANY CASE, AVOID LIQUIDS CONTAINING
SOLVENTS). The DISPLAY SCREEN must be cleaned with a dry cloth; if it is very dirty, clean it
with a damp cloth and then dry. Do not spray alcohol directly on the control panel and avoid
cleaning with strong jets of compressed air.
Keep the methacrylate filters of the optic unit clean using a lightly dampened cloth. Do not use
solvents;
Cleaning, cartridge replacement and other printer maintenance operations are described in the
manual provided. Always refer to the latter before performing any maintenance operations on the
printer.

14 STORING AND SCRAPPING

Storing - In case of storing for long periods, disconnect all power supply sources and protect
those parts, like the printer and monitor, that might be damaged by excessive dust deposits.
Grease the parts that might be damaged by dryness.
Scrapping – In the event of the machine being no longer used, this must be made inoperative:
Any parts that could be dangerous must be made harmless.
Divide parts up according to their disposal class. Scrap as scrap iron through authorised disposal
channels. If considered as special wastes, dismantle and split into uniform parts before disposal
through authorised channels.
