Populations Chapter Presentation

Individual Summary
11/25/2018

1. Provide a serious appraisal of your collaboration and negotiations within the group.
Detail the work you did in this project.
a. Our group got along well and seemed to work well together from the start. It was
definitely a struggle to get the whole group together sometimes because some
people didn’t have the same class schedule as others. We worked around this
pretty well but did kick the can down the road for a bit. As far as allocating work
in the group, we tried to make it as equal and fair as possible. There have been
several other competing requirements that have directly impacted the time and
effort that have gone into this project but I am confident that what we have
accomplished is a quality project with good attention to detail.
b. The work I did in the group included:
i. Building a SharePoint site for all work and collaboration that included a
task tracker of everything due and a dashboard to track everyone’s
progress.
ii. Acquired the formal class slides to use as a guide for the group
PowerPoint.
iii. PowerPoint slides and notes for Objective 6, Quality Improvement
strategies and home safety
iv. PowerPoint slides and notes for Objective 7, Trends in Home Care and
National Health Objectives.

2. Identify the group’s strengths and weaknesses that contributed to or detracted from this
project.
a. Strengths:
i. The group maintained a positive attitude throughout
ii. Everyone pulled their weight and was quick to offer assistance to other
group members who needed a hand
iii. The ability to see our progress and reference the SharePoint and task
tracker really helped us fight through the tyranny of distance
b. Weaknesses:
i. Communication was definitely a struggle at some points because of the
method we chose to use, (groupme). I think we needed to start a group text
and email chain instead of using the messaging app.
ii. Class schedules and work schedule really worked against us. We didn’t
take as much advantage of our class work days as we should.
iii. The last weaknesses we had as a group really was the schedule. With so
many things due in the same window and the amount of group work that is
being required it has really made things complicated and challenging at
the end of the semester.
3. Identify at least 5 important things you learned from this project work (Address group
process, time management, and important topic related information.
1. The importance of organization and deconflicting competing schedules and
requirements.
2. We really needed to have assigned a group leader. Despite our attempts to
organize and deconflict schedules there really needed to be one person who
was monitoring and tracking progress.
3. Our group could have definitely utilized better time management in regard to
getting more done on the project earlier but again the sheer volume of group
work expected of us seemed a bit disproportionate to the perceived
importance and value of the material being covered.
4. I thought the way we divided and conquered the required work went very
well. Instead of just assigning people the sections and the responsibility we
opted to have people chose which sections they wanted to work and what was
the most interesting to them. I think this was a really good model and it will
be something I use going forward with future group work.
5. The information we a presenting seems to be pretty redundant to what we
have already learned in class in or in practice with the clinical experiences we
had. There are some aspects of new information but I really think that some of
what we are going to present has been covered in several other venues and
classes. However, the Omaha System is not something everyone has been
exposed to especially if their home health clinicals were from the VA.
