I - OLFACTORY Afferent: nasal mucosa

II - OPTIC Afferent: retina of the eye

III - OCULOMOTOR Efferent: eye muscles including some


smooth muscles (parasympathetic)

IV - TROCHLEAR Efferent: one eye muscle

V - TRIGEMINAL Efferent: muscles of mastication and other


cranial muscles
Afferent: face and head skin, teeth, oral
cavity, most general sensation for tongue

VI - ABDUCENS Efferent:one eye muscle

VII - FACIAL Efferent:muscles of facial expression, other


cranial muscles, lacrimal gland and
submandibular, sublingual, and minor
salivary glands (parasympathetic)
Afferent: skin around ear and taste
sensation for tongue

VIII - VESTIBULOCOCHLEAR Afferent: inner ear

IX - GLOSSOPHARYNGEAL Efferent: stylopharyngeus muscle and


parotid salivary gland (parasympathetic)
and respiratory mucosa of pharynx
Afferent: skin around ear and taste
sensation for tongue

X - VAGUS Efferent: most muscles of soft palate,


pharynx, larynx, thoracic and abdominal
organs (parasympathetic)
Afferent:skin around ear and taste
sensation for epiglottis

XI - ACCESSORY Efferent: muscles of neck

XII - HYPOGLOSSAL Efferent: tongue muscles
