Tsina, patuloy ang pagpapalakas sa West Philippine Sea

Mas dikit ngayon ang Pilipinas at Tsina sa ilalim ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte.
Pero sa kabila ng magandang relasyon ng dalawang bansa, patuloy lang ang Tsina sa pagpapalakas ng puwersa
at pasilidad nito sa mga pinag-aagawang teritoryo sa West Philippine Sea.
Mismong si presidential spokesman Harry Roque ang nagsabi, naniniwala pa rin ang Pilipinas sa "good faith" o
"kagandahang loob" ng Tsina.
Binanatan ang pahayag na ito ni Roque.
"At the very least, that statement is naïve on the part of a government spokesman. At its worst, it's tantamount to
disloyalty to the Republic," ani Ashley Acedillo, dating consultant ng National Security Council.
Ayon din sa Tsina, "makatuwiran" ang ginagawa nitong pagpapalawak ng pasilidad nito.

Namataan ang high-frequency radars at iba pang communication equipment, pati na imbakan ng mga missile at
iba pang sandata, sa pinag-aagawang Fiery Cross Reef, Subi Reef, at Mischief Reef na napakalapit sa Pilipinas.
"The existence of storage areas, underground facilities, which are going to be used for storing weapons and fuel,
these should be of concern to Philippine security agencies," ani Atty. Jay Batongbacal, director ng U.P. Institute
for Maritime Affairs and Law of the Sea.

Ayon din kay Batongbacal, dapat kumpunihin man lang ng Pilipinas ang mga pasilidad sa mga lugar na
okupado nito sa Spratlys.
Una na rito ang lumang runway sa Pag-asa island.
"The urgency is even greater because as it is, right now our facilities are the most weakly protected, they're least
capable of resisting even a slight change in the circumstances," ani Batongbacal.

Pero ibang usapan kung palulusutin ito ng Tsina.

Nitong Agosto, nagtayo ang Pilipinas ng ilang kubo sa Sandy Cay na malapit sa Pag-asa island.
Pero inatras ito ni Duterte matapos pumalag ang Tsina.
