INTRODUCTION

The Industrial Revolution, humans were able to advance further into the 21st
century. Technology developed rapidly, science became advanced and the
manufacturing age came into view. With all of these came one more effect, industrial
pollution. Earlier, industries were small factories that produced smoke as the main
pollutant .However, since the number of factories were limited and worked only a certain
number of hours a day, the levels of pollution did not grow significantly. But when these
factories became full scale industries and manufacturing units, the issue of industrial
pollution started to take on more importance .Any form of pollution that can trace its
immediate source to industrial practices is known as industrial pollution. Most of the
pollution on the planet can be traced back to industries of some kind. In fact, the issue of
industrial pollution has taken on grave importance for agencies trying to fight
against environmental degradation. Countries facing sudden and rapid growth of such
industries are finding it to be a serious problem which has to be brought under control
immediately Industrial pollution takes on many faces. It contaminates many sources of
drinking water, releases unwanted toxins into the air and reduces the quality of soil all
over the world. Major environmental disasters have been caused due to industrial
mishaps, which have yet to be brought under control. Below are few of the causes of
industrial pollution that have resulted in environment degradation.

While there is a growing concern for the adequate provision of water supply and
sanitation in many urban and rural areas, there is equal concern towards addressing
wastewater generated by both industrial and domestic effluent affecting urban areas and
their hinterlands. It is estimated that by 2015, 80 percent of the world population will be
living in cities in developing countries. Sub-Saharan Africa has the highest growth of
4.58percent, followed by South-Eastern Asia (3.82%), eastern Asia (3.39%), Western
Asia (2.96%), Southern Asia(2.89%) and Northern Africa (2.48%). Asia and Africa will
continue to dominate global urban growth through2030, with Asia alone accounting for
more than half of the world's urban population. These have not only created a major
challenge for meeting the growing demand for clean water supply, sanitation, and food
security but also a growing need for disposal of wastewater generated across urban and
peri-urban regions. These stresses have contributed to wide-spread ecological problems
in and around cities. The unprecedented urbanization and industrialization are associated
with exerting pressure on the quality of water resources placing human health at risk. The
situation is no different for Bangladesh that has about 1176 units that heavily pollute the
environment; of these pulp and paper, textiles and leather industries were the dominant
source of wastewater pollutants. Of these industries, tanneries and textile (dying)
industries are examined to understand the linkage between water pollution and its
influence on human health.
Research Issue

GUIDE QUESTIONS: “environmental /s does this research address?”

Health

Pollution

Research Questions

Guide: Express the environmental issue in at least 3 research questions

How can we prevent industrial waste?

What could be the possible harm from industrial waste?

Does industrial waste gives us good benefits?

Methodology

Guide: What plausible research methods will be used to address the research questions.

The researchers aim to conduct the research, through data gathering and field study, from
the Earth Island Institute Philippines and the Department of Health (DOH). Would be utilized the
researchers to make this study valid and helpful/contribute to the Pilipino people even in our own
country, society and environment.

Potential Implications of Research Findings

The findings of this study to warn and to help the community the advantages and
disadvantages of having an industrial plant in their place. It will also encourage people to take
care of the environment.
