Short Story Outline


LIST AND DESCRIBE YOUR MAJOR CHARACTERS

- Mr. Yohan Blois; Japanese man who work as a girl cloth’s manager at a popular plaza. He is
very hard-working man and very optimistic. He yields in everything even if it isn’t his duty.
He works so hard but the salary but he still got reprimanded by his boss as a result he is
very tired of his work. He really dedicated himself as he wants to make as much money as
he can to make his family live comfortably. He is the head of family and he is the only one
who works so he plays the most important role in his family.
- Mrs. Mishima Airi ; she is a maid her whole life until her husband dies. She is a good-
looking woman, although she has a face without anything special. After her husband’s
death she started working as an employee in his company to earn a living, but also to seek
out the truth behind her husband’s death.

CHARACTERIZATION

What techniques will you use to reveal the qualities of your characters? How will you use the
following?

Action/Reaction

From describing the actions and reactions when the characters get into trouble

Dialogue

In the story, there are a lot of conflicts between characters and interaction, dialogues would
emphasize the characters at that moment

Physical Description

Describing the clothing, facial expression of characters

Objects/Possessions

Special items or memorable objects to show special relationship between the characters

Thoughts

When the characters are getting in trouble and thinking of a way to solve, or when they are in deep
thought on their life.

Idiosyncrasies

Showing certain behaviors or actions when the character is undergoing certain situations

Background Information

Trying to show the deep and loving relationship of the couple before her husband’s death to show
how close and how deep their love is for each other

PLOT

1. Exposition; One man already death and he is in the train on his way to the heaven. And
suddenly he realized that he had left his family behind without saying goodbye so he jumps
out of the train as he wants to go back to the earth.

2. Conflict; When he goes back to the earth, he finds out that someone blame him that he is
the one who fraud the company and as a result he commits suicide. This make his family got
a blame on this and didn’t live happily. But this is not true, so he need to fix this.

3. Rising Action; He find the solutions to those problems and prove his purity.

4. Climax; His time in the earth is end, so he need to go back to heaven.

5. Falling Action; His family is living happily but they think something is missing.

6. Resolution; His decision whether he want them to remember that it’s him or he want them
to forgot all about it.

MOOD & TONE

1. What kind of mood do you want to create in your reader?


- Loving, caring, emotional

2. How will you achieve this? What tone will you use?
- Applying certain interactions between characters (lyrical, optimistic)

3. What other literary devices (imagery, setting, personification, etc.) can you use to influence
mood?
- imagery: to show the reader the love of the couple by comparing it to other objects to
emphasize how much it is

TRANSFORMATIVE MOMENTS

Many stories contain “transformative moments”—events that make a character think in a new way,
or somehow changes them for the rest of their lives. It is not absolutely necessary for your story to
have one, but what kind of transformative moments might your story contain?

-When the man came back from his death to solve his problems and regrets when he was alive.
