CB Simulation Application Note

Use of the CB Configuration Module in a

Control Center Document
This is the intended and most straightforward use of the CB Configuration module and the
CB Simulation.
The CB Configuration module is typically inserted prior to any test module module and sets up the
parameters for the CB Simulation in the CMC 256.
During the execution of the consecutive test modules, the CB Simulation works with the parameters set
up by the preceeding CB Configuration module. The CB Simulation obtains its parameters only from
the CB Configuration module and is not updated by the test modules.
Due to the sequential execution of the modules in a test plan, there is no concurrent execution of the
CB Configuration module and any other test module.
There are some test modules, which make also use of the CB Simulation parameters for the test signal
generation.
In the standard case, i.e. the CB Configuration module and the other test modules use the same CB
parameter block of a global test object, all components show consistent behavior.

Typical example of a sequence of test modules when using CB Simulation.

In most cases, the modules use the CB trip time to control the switching off of the fault quantities after
a trip command has been issued.
The modules which make use of the CB Simulation parameters are:
• Advanced Distance
• Autoreclosure
• State Sequencer (when using the Z-Shot feature)
• Synchronizer (this module uses the CB close time)

OMICRON Test Universe

Standalone use of the CB Configuration Module

The CB Configuration module can be used in standalone mode to set up and start the CB Simulation
in the CMC 256.
The CB Simulation works autarchic, completely independent of the way how the trip and/or close
commands at the binary inputs of the CMC 256 are generated.
The CMC 256 performs its task as CB simulator even of no other Test Universe component is used at
all.
There are some restrictions when using the CB Configuration module in standalone mode:
• The CB Configuration module must not be active at the same time with another test module.
• The CB Configuration module and other standalone test modules work with their private (local) test
object settings. When the CB parameters are different, the CB timing obtained at the 52a/b outputs
and the test module operation may be inconsistent.
