EFFECTIVITY: ALL
1. General
A. This section gives the procedure to remove, install, deactivate and reactivate the high-stage
bleed-valves, and it also gives the procedure to remove/install the high-stage bleed-valve filters.
B. The high-stage bleed-valves are installed in the LH and RH bleed ducting on the outboard side of
the engines.

MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES. THIS IS TO PREVENT INJURY TO PERSONS AND/
OR DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT.
WARNING: DO NOT TOUCH THE DUCTS OR COMPONENTS OF THE AIR BLEED SYSTEM
IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE SYSTEM STOPS ITS OPERATION. THE HIGH AIR
TEMPERATURE CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS.
(2) Do the procedure to make the aircraft safe for maintenance of the powerplant (AMM
TASK 71-00-00-910-801-A/200).
SUBTASK 860-001-A
(3) Connect the external AC power supply to the aircraft (AMM TASK 24-42-02-860-801-
A/200).
(4) On the overhead panel, on the AIR COND/PNEUMATIC control panel, set these
switches to the unlatched (off) position (a striped bar comes into view):
• BLEED1
• BLEED2
• BLEED APU
• XBLEED
(5) Put a DO NOT OPERATE tag on the AIR COND/PNEUMATIC control panel.
(6) Make sure that the engines (AMM TASK 71-00-01-910-806-A/200) and the APU (AMM
TASK 49-10-00-910-802-A/200) are not in operation.
(7) Make sure that the SLAT/FLAP lever is at the zero-degree position and put a DO NOT
OPERATE tag on it.

(8) Get access to the middle avionics compartment as follows:
(a) Open the access door 199AL.
(b) Open and remove the access door 147AL (AMM TASK 52-46-00-000-801-A/
400).

(9) For the LH engine, open this circuit breaker and put a circuit breaker ring and tag
(inoperative - do not operate) on it:
• E1 REVERSER-LICC (DC BUS 1)
(10) For the RH engine, open this circuit breaker and put a circuit breaker ring and tag
(inoperative - do not operate) on it:
• E2 REVERSER-RICC (DC BUS 2)

WARNING: FOLLOW THE CORRECT SEQUENCE WHEN YOU DO THE SPECIFIED TASKS
TO OPEN THE THRUST REVERSERS. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS
INSTRUCTION, INJURIES TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT CAN
OCCUR.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE LEADING EDGE SLATS ARE RETRACTED AND NOT IN
OPERATION BEFORE YOU OPEN THE THRUST REVERSER. WHEN THE
THRUST REVERSER IS OPEN, THE EXTENDED LEADING EDGE SLATS CAN HIT
IT. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, DAMAGE TO THE SLAT LEADING
EDGE AND THRUST REVERSER CAN OCCUR.
(b) Use a GSE 060 to open access door 415AL (AMM TASK 78-30-01-910-801-A/
200).
(b) Use a GSE 060 to open access door 425AL (AMM TASK 78-30-01-910-801-A/
200).
CAUTION: PUT CAPS ON ALL LINES AND FITTINGS AND MAKE SURE THAT THE AREA IS
CLEAN AND FREE OF ALL UNWANTED FLUID. DIRT CAN CAUSE SYSTEM
CONTAMINATION, LEAKAGE, AND DAMAGE TO COMPONENTS.
(b) Disconnect the pressure-control servo line (10) from the adapter (9).
1 Remove the nut (12), washer (13), bolt (14) and bushing (11).
(g) Disconnect the high-stage bleed valve (4) from the engine bleed lines (REF.).
(2) Install protective cap/plug on all openings of the engine bleed lines (REF.) and servo
lines (7) and (10).
SUBTASK 020-007-A
(3) If it is necessary to remove only the adapter (9), without the high stage bleed valve (4),
do as follows:
(a) Disconnect the pressure-control servo line (10) from the adapter (9).
(b) Remove the adapter (9) from high stage bleed valve(4).
(d) Install protective cap/plug on high-stage bleed valve (4) and pressure-control
servo line (10).

SUBTASK 860-002-A
(1) Make sure that the aircraft is in the same configuration as it was at the end of the
removal task (AMM TASK 36-11-01-000-801-A/400).
I. High-Stage Bleed Valves - Installation
SUBTASK 420-006-A (Figure 401)
(1) Remove the protective cap/plug from all openings of the engine bleed lines and servo
lines (7) and (10).
NOTE: The arrow must point to the correct air flow direction.
(c) Align the high-stage bleed valve (4) with the engine bleed lines.
(d) Connect the engine bleed lines and the couplings (6) to the high-stage bleed
valve (4).
(g) Apply a thin layer of one of the approved lubricants to the threads of the
pressure-supply servo line (7) and to the pressure-control servo line (10).
(h) Connect the pressure-supply servo line (7) to the high-stage bleed valve (4).
(i) Connect the pressure-control servo line (10) to the adapter (9).
(l) With a torque wrench, apply a torque of 6.78 to 7.91 N.m (60 to 70 lb.in) to the
nut (12) of the rod (15).
(m) With a torque wrench, apply a torque of 12.00 to 14.00 N.m (106 to 124 lb.in) to
the nuts of the couplings (6). Refer to AMM TASK 20-10-12-910-801-A/200.
(n) With a torque wrench, apply a torque of 12.00 to 14.00 N.m (106 to 124 lb.in) to
the couplings (1) and (3). Refer to AMM TASK 20-10-12-910-801-A/200.
(o) With a torque wrench, apply a torque of 16.2 to 18.9 N.m (143 to 167 lb.in) to the
pressure-supply servo line (10).
(p) With a torque wrench, apply a torque of 17.6 to 20.8 N.m (156 to 184 lb.in) to the
pressure-control servo line (7).
SUBTASK 420-008-A
(3) If it is necessary to install only the adapter (9), do as follows:
(a) Remove the protective cap/plug from the high-stage bleed valve (4) and
pressure-control servo line (10).
(b) Install a new packing (8) and the adapter (9) on the high-stage bleed valve (4).
(c) With a torque wrench, apply a torque of 4.0 to 4.5 N.m (35 - 40 lb.in) to the
adapter (9).
(d) Apply a thin layer of one of the approved lubricants to the threads of the
pressure-control servo line (10).
(e) Connect the pressure-control servo line (10) to the adapter (9).
(f) With a torque wrench, apply a torque of 16.2 to 18.9 N.m (143 to 167 lb.in) to the
pressure-supply servo line (10).

CAUTION: EXAMINE ALL THE WORK AREAS TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU REMOVED ALL

(3) For the LH engine, remove the circuit breaker ring and tag (inoperative - do not
operate) from this circuit breaker and close it:
• E1 REVERSER-LICC (DC BUS 1)
(4) For the RH engine, remove the circuit breaker ring and tag (inoperative - do not
operate) from this circuit breaker and close it:
• E2 REVERSER-RICC (DC BUS 2)

(5) Close the access to the middle avionics compartment as follows:
(a) Install and close access door 147AL (AMM TASK 52-46-00-400-801-A/400).

(6) Remove the DO NOT OPERATE tag from the AIR COND/PNEUMATIC control panel.
(7) Remove the DO NOT OPERATE tag from the slat/flap lever.

(8) Do the leak test of the high-stage bleed valve (AMM TASK 36-11-01-790-801-A/500).

(9) Disconnect the external AC power supply from the aircraft (AMM TASK

(b) Use a GSE 060 to open the access door 415AL (AMM TASK 78-30-01-910-801-
A/200).
(b) Use a GSE 060 to open the access door 425AL (AMM TASK 78-30-01-910-801-
A/200).
CAUTION: PUT CAPS ON ALL LINES AND FITTINGS AND MAKE SURE THAT THE AREA IS
CLEAN AND FREE OF ALL UNWANTED FLUID. DIRT CAN CAUSE SYSTEM
CONTAMINATION, LEAKAGE, AND DAMAGE TO COMPONENTS.
(1) Disconnect the servo line (1) from the filter (2) and move it apart.
(4) If necessary, loosen the lower clamp of the high-stage bleed-valve (REF.) and move it
to make the filter (2) removal easier (AMM TASK 36-11-01-000-801-A/400).
(5) Remove the filter (2) from the high-stage bleed valve (REF.).

(1) Make sure that the aircraft is in the same configuration as it was at the end of the
removal task (AMM TASK 36-11-01-000-802-A/400).
I. High-Stage Bleed-Valve Filter - Installation
SUBTASK 420-003-A (Figure 402)
(1) Install the new seal (3) on the filter (2).
(2) Remove the protective cap/plug from the high-stage bleed valve and from the servo
line (1).
(4) Use a torque wrench to torque the filter (2) to 6.21 - 7.34 N.m (55 - 65 lb.in).
(6) Apply a thin layer of one of the approved lubricants to the threads of the servo line (1).
(8) Use a torque wrench to torque the servo line (1) to 17.6 - 20.8 N.m (156 - 184 lb.in).
(9) If the lower clamp of the high-stage bleed valve was loosened, install and torque it
again (AMM TASK 36-11-01-400-801-A/400).

CAUTION: EXAMINE ALL THE WORK AREAS TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU REMOVED ALL
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT AFTER YOU COMPLETED THE WORK. IF YOU DO NOT

(3) For the LH engine, remove the circuit breaker ring and tag (inoperative - do not
operate) from this circuit breaker and close it:

(4) For the RH engine, remove the circuit breaker ring and tag (inoperative - do not
operate) from this circuit breaker and close it:
• E2 REVERSER-RICC (DC BUS 2)

(5) Close the access to the middle avionics compartment as follows:
(a) Install and close access door 147AL (AMM TASK 52-46-00-400-801-A/400).

EFFECTIVITY: ALL
(1) This task refers to item 36-11-01 - high-stage bleed valve - of the DDPM and gives the
procedure to deactivate the high-stage bleed valve.
(2) The high-stage bleed valves are installed in the LH and RH bleed ducts on the outboard side
of the engines, in the zones 416 and 426.

(3) Make sure that the engines (AMM TASK 71-00-01-910-806-A/200) and the APU (AMM
TASK 49-10-00-910-802-A/200) are not in operation.
(4) Make sure that the slat/flap lever is in the zero-degree position and put a DO NOT
OPERATE tag on it.

(5) Connect the external AC power supply to the aircraft (AMM TASK 24-42-02-860-801-
A/200).

2 Use a GSE 060 to open the access door 415AL (AMM TASK
78-30-01-910-801-A/200).
2 Use a GSE 060 to open the access door 425AL (AMM TASK
78-30-01-910-801-A/200).
• BLEED2
• BLEED APU
• XBLEED
(c) Make sure that the valve is in the closed position. If not, manually turn the valve
to the closed position.
NOTE: The locking crank (2) has a hexagonal head, so you can put a wrench on
it and turn the valve.
(d) Install the locking screw (1) on the threaded hole for locked position (REF.).
(e) Tighten the locking screw (1) until it touches the actuator housing boss.
NOTE: An increase in the applied torque is an indication of this point.
(2) Put a HI STAGE BLEED VLV 1 INOP tag and/or a HI STAGE BLEED VLV 2 INOP tag
on the AIR COND/PNEUMATIC control panel, as applicable.
(3) Put a BLEED 1 INOP – DO NOT USE tag and/or a BLEED 2 INOP – DO NOT USE tag
on the BLEED 1 and/or BLEED 2 pushbutton of the AIR COND/PNEUMATIC control
panel, as applicable.
(4) Make an entry in the aircraft technical logbook to show that you did the deactivation
procedure for the high-stage bleed valve.
G. Job Close-Up

CAUTION: EXAMINE ALL THE WORK AREAS TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU REMOVED
ALL TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT AFTER YOU COMPLETED THE WORK. IF
YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS PROCEDURE, DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT CAN
OCCUR.
(1) To close the applicable access door to the high-stage bleed valve, do as follows:
(a) On the LH engine close these access doors, as applicable:
• 413AL (AMM TASK 71-11-00-910-802-A/200)
• Use a GSE 060 to close the access door 415AL (AMM TASK
78-30-01-910-802-A/200)
• Use a GSE 060 to close the access door 425AL (AMM TASK
78-30-01-910-802-A/200)

(2) Remove the DO NOT OPERATE tag from the slat/flap lever.
SUBTASK 861-004-A
(3) Disconnect the external AC power supply from the aircraft (AMM TASK
24-42-02-860-802-A/200).

(3) Make sure that the engines (AMM TASK 71-00-01-910-806-A/200) and the APU (AMM
TASK 49-10-00-910-802-A/200) are not in operation.
(4) Make sure that the SLAT/FLAP lever is in the zero-degree position and put a DO NOT
OPERATE tag on it.

2 Use a GSE 060 to open the access door 425AL (AMM TASK
78-30-01-910-801-A/200).
(b) Install and tighten the locking screw (1) to the normal position (REF.) threaded
hole.
(2) Do the troubleshooting and the applicable corrective maintenance procedure for the
high-stage bleed valve.
(3) Remove the HI STAGE BLEED VLV 1 INOP tag and/or the HI STAGE BLEED VLV 2
INOP tag from the AIR COND/PNEUMATIC control panel, as applicable.
(4) Remove the BLEED 1 INOP – DO NOT USE tag and/or the BLEED 2 INOP – DO NOT
USE tag from the BLEED 1 and/or BLEED 2 pushbutton of the AIR COND/
PNEUMATIC control panel, as applicable.
(5) Make an entry in the aircraft technical logbook to show that you did the reactivation
procedure for the high-stage bleed valve.

(1) To close the applicable access door to the high-stage bleed valve, do as follows:
(a) On the LH engine close these access doors, as applicable:
• 413AL (AMM TASK 71-11-00-910-802-A/200)
• Use a GSE 060 to close the access door 415AL (AMM TASK
78-30-01-910-802-A/200)
• Use a GSE 060 to close the access door 425AL (AMM TASK
78-30-01-910-802-A/200)

(2) Remove the DO NOT OPERATE tag from the slat/flap lever.

(3) Disconnect the external AC power supply from the aircraft (AMM TASK
24-42-02-860-802-A/200).
