TOURISM DEFINED

Tourism comprises the


activities of persons traveling
to and staying in places
outside their usual
environment for not more than
one consecutive year for
leisure, business and other
purposes (UNWTO)
TOURIST DEFINED

A person who visits a country


other than that in which he or
she usually resides for a
period of at least 24 hours
(League of Nations, 1937)

THE NATURE OF A TOUR
DOMESTIC TOURISM

Travel taken exclusively within the national boundaries of


the traveler’s country

PACKAGE TOUR

An arrangement in which transport and accommodation is


bought by the tourist at an all-inclusive price and the price
of the individual elements cannot be determined by the
tourist
INDEPENDENT TOUR

An arrangement in which the tourist buys each tour element


separately, either making reservations in advance through a
travel agent or en route during his tour
INDEPENDENT INDIVIDUAL
TOUR/GROUP INCLUSIVE
TOUR

An independent inclusive tour is one in which the tourist


travels to his or her destination individually

In a group inclusive tour, he/she travels in the company of


other tourists
THE TOURIST PRODUCT

It is a service.

The tourist product is largely psychological in its attraction.

The product tends to vary in standard and quality over time.

The supply of the product is fixed


THE TOURIST DESTINATION

Attractions may be site and event attraction.

Attractions may be natural or man-made.

Amenities or facilities include accommodation, food, local


transport, communications and entertainment at the site.

If private transport is to be the means of access, tourism


flow will depend upon adequate roads, gasoline stations,
good railways, coach services, airports and seaport to
facilitate accessibility

In tourism and hospitality, the product is not brought to the consumer, rather, the
consumer has to travel and go to the product to purchase it

The products of tourism and hospitality are not used up; thus they do not exhaust the
country’s natural resources.

Tourism and hospitality is a labor-intensive industry.

Tourism and hospitality is people-oriented.

Tourism and hospitality is a multidimensional phenomenon.

The tourism and hospitality is seasonal.

The industry is dynamic.

ASSIGNMENT

Research on at least 5 emerging destinations in the


Philippines through news articles/features and how it has
helped the economy of each destination. This will be
presented through a powerpoint presentation. Each group
will be given at least 5 minutes to present. Presentation will
be next meeting.
