General Warranty Notes

- There is a one year warranty on functional parts and labor. After one year, any service call should be
considered a COD call. The warranty is a LIMITED WARRANTY. Electrolux products may have
a longer warranty than Frigidaire.

- Cosmetic repairs, installation issues, and damage are not covered by the manufacturer’s written
warranty. (An unwritten general policy exception will cover some limited cosmetic and damage
repairs, within the first 60 days of purchase, in order to keep the product in the home).

- The following items are not covered under the new product warranty: handles (except microwave,
range, and oven handles), knobs, water filters, air filters, door bins, drawers, dispenser cups,
etc.

- Laundry pedestals have NO labor warranty.

General Information
The service technician’s responsibility is to:

1. Make The Repair – the goal is to service and repair the appliance - while offering stellar
customer service as a representative of Frigidaire and Electrolux.

2. Report Exactly What Was Done, And Why - The technician should write at least 2 full
sentences on the claim describing what was done and why it was done.
Generally, this is the minimum amount of sentences necessary to adequately
communicate what was accomplished on the repair.

3. Complete Communication Documentation - When you call any department within Electrolux,
(the tech line, customer service, DDPS, etc.) ALWAYS GET:

- the name of the person to whom you are speaking.

- their extension

- the file number assigned the communication

- concession number (if applicable)

RSQM Communications
Provide the following when contacting your RSQM:

- customer’s name, address, and phone number

- product information (model number, serial number, and date of purchase)

8

Proof Of Purchase
The SAC fax number has been shut down. Any POP must be attached to a claim. The service tech
must secure a copy of the customers receipt while at the service call for any unit with a serial number
older than 18 months, regardless of the date of purchase. It's always best to write the claim number
on the top of the POP before attaching the POP to the claim or faxing it to the RSQM. Digital images
from phones or cameras are acceptable.

Comments in the Home

Occasionally, a technician may make a comment that negatively impacts the repair scenario. This
may be done accidently, or with intent. Regardless, comments that are not professional in nature, or
not thought out, may cause the customer to lose confidence in the technician or the product. It is the
technician’s responsibility, as a representative of the manufacturer, to communicate to the consumer
in a professional manner. Below are examples of comments that have been made by technicians to
consumers that have resulted in escalated issues, and, in some cases, needless product exchanges.

“I haven’t been trained on this model.”

“I never saw one of these before.”
“We’ve had nothing but trouble with this model.”
“I see this problem all the time.”
“Why did you buy this Brand X product? Brand Z is much better.”
"I just went through product training for Frigidaire and this issue isn't going to be resolved until May.
"This is a known issue with Frigidaire dishwashers.“
"Call Frigidaire and ask for a concession. They will help pay for the parts even though your unit is out
of warranty.“
"Electrolux only requires two functional failures and then they will replace the unit."
NOTE – As a subcontractor with Electrolux, you are provided with information to assist you in taking
care of the customer and their product. Some of that information is PROPRIETARY INFORMATION
and should not be shared with the customer. Examples of proprietary information are:

- REWORK INFORMATION

- SERVICE FLASHES
- POLICIES / PROCEDURES
- YOUR RATE / PAYMENT
- CONCESSIONS

Dishwasher Drying Action

Effortless Dry
The dishwasher cycle enters the dry cycle and the hot dishes start evaporating the water off of them,
which starts building steam pressure. The vent opening on the top left side of the door allows the
steam pressure to be released from the tub. As the air enters the duct inside the door, the cooler
vent tube condenses moisture from the air on the sides of the tube. The water then falls to the
bottom and out of the tube into the bottom of the tub, then to the sump where it is pumped from the
dishwasher. The drier air is continually pushed from the tube by the steam entering the top of the
tube. This dry air exits the bottom of the door.

Sahara Dry
When this option is selected, the control adds an additional 20 minutes to the dry cycle. The fan
continues to run and the heater is cycled on and off every minute for the 20 minute period. At the end
of the additional time, the clean light comes on. However, the top vent fan will continue to run for up
to an hour to continue the drying process.

Luxury Dry
The Electrolux units has two drying systems. The first has a vent in the top right rear of the tub,
which pushes air into the tub to circulate and speed evaporation of water from the dishes. Most of
this water will condense on the tub and inner door panel and be pumped from the unit. Air going in
leaves through the water inlet on the left side of the tub into an air duct. This allows for more
condensation of the air that drips back into the tub. The drier air enters the lower fan housing where a
fan is moving air from under the unit out the left side. This air causes venture action, pulling air from
the left side air duct to exit the dishwasher.

The second dry system is used on the EIDB5905J. This vent system does not have the vent in the
top right side of the tub. When entering the dry cycle, the evaporated water from the dishes builds up
steam pressure. Moisture condenses on the tub and door and the fan unit starts to pull the excess
steam pressure from the tub with venturi action, causing the dishes to dry more thoroughly.

Note

In all of these dries rinse aid is needed.

Instructions for installing resistor on glass

cooktop units with serial numbers starting
with 3F.

The 609T013S06 resistor that is included in kit

5304461323 can be used to eliminate nuisance
glowing of indicator lights that glow faintly when power
to the element is off and the elements are cool. In some
cases the resistor can be installed directly onto the light
assembly.
In the case of some cooktops with serial numbers Photo A

install the resistor on the light assembly.

In these situations the resistor can be installed across
Terminal 4 Terminal P1
the switch terminals that power the indicator light and
will work with the same results as installing it accross the
light assembly.

The photos to the right show how to install the resistor

on the surface element switch to eliminate the faint
glowing indicator.

Photo A shows the unit after the glass cooktop has been
removed and the element switches have been accessed
through the control panel.

Photo B shows a close up of the Right Front element

control switch. The resistor will be connected to terminal
#4 and P1 on the switch. On this switch there are two Photo B
spade connectors for terminal P1, so the resistor can be
plugged on to the adjacent spade. If there is only one
spade connector as seen on terminal 4 you must plug the

resistor to reconnect the original wire that was installed

on the terminal.

Photo C shows the Right Front element control switch

after the resistor has been installed accross terminals 4
and P1. The resistor leads can be bent carefully to
provide adequate clearance from any metal surfaces or
other wiring connections.

Variable Capacity Compressor (VCC)
The new series of very high efficiency compressors are equipped with an electrical power input electronic control, also
known as the Inverter. An inverter replaces the standard start package. The solid state power input electronic control
(Inverter) contains:
1. Low voltage power supply
2. EMI Filter and Voltage Suppressor Circuit
3. AC-DC Converter
4. Three-phase Inverter Bridge
5. Serial communication
6. Microcontroller or DSP Controller Protection
7. Voltage Sensor
Inverter replaces the solid state relay, the overload protector and the run capacitor.
Inverter has 115 VAC supplied to it through the service cord.
Inverter receives DC signal from the main control board and varies the speed of the compressor based on signaled
cooling demand.

Figure 1. VCC Compressor

Under normal operating conditions, VCC compressor runs 100% of time except for defrost. Diagnostic Test 38 is
provided to aide in diagnosis and repair of VCC compressor failure to o
compressor on and off. If compressor does not run, use the following diagnostic procedure to isolate the root cause of
failure.

Testing the Inverter

1. Enter diagnostic test 38 and start the compressor.
2. Check line voltage supply to the Inverter.
Use a Multimeter set on 300 VAC to test the voltage supplied into the inverter from the service cord. Do not
disconnect the connector. Slide the probes alongside the wires until terminals are in contact with the probes.
Meter should read 115 or 127 VAC +/- 10% (depending on local codes).
If correct voltage is not present, check service cord and voltage supply to the unit.
If correct voltage is present, continue diagnosis.
NOTE: It is recommended that a TRUE RMS MULTIMETER be used to diagnose the inverter.

3. Check DC signal at the Inverter.

Identify the connector where the inverter receives signal from the main control (commonly RED and BLK wires.) Do
not disconnect the connector from the inverter. Slide the probes alongside the wires until terminals are in contact with
the probes. Use one of the following methods to check whether the inverter is receiving the signal from the main
control.
Set Multimeter to VAC. Check for 10-15 VAC.

100
Set Multimeter to VDC. Check for 1-5 VDC.
If correct AC and DC voltages are detected, the inverter is receiving the signal to operate the compressor.

If correct AC and DC voltages are not detected, proceed to step 4 to determine whether the board is sending
the correct signal.

Figure 2. VCC Compressor Wiring from Main Control

and from Service Cord

4. Check DC signal from main control.

Remove main control board from under the front of the unit. Refer to the wiring diagram supplied with the unit to
identify VCC Compressor connections at main control (J3-2 RED/BLK and J3-1 BLK/WHT in the example shown. Fig.
3.) Do not disconnect the connector from the main control. Slide the probes alongside the wires until terminals are
in contact with the probes. Use one of the following methods to check whether the main control is sending the
signal to the inverter.
Set Multimeter to VAC. Check for 10-15 VAC.
Set Multimeter to VDC. Check for 1-5 VDC.
If correct AC and DC voltages are detected at main control, diagnose and repair wiring and connections
between the main control and the inverter. Refer to the wiring diagram.
If correct AC and DC voltages are not detected at main control, replace the main control. It is not supplying
the signal required to operate the compressor.

If the inverter receives appropriate signal, as measured in step 2, proceed to test the compressor.

Figure 4. VCC Compressor Terminals

Figure 3. Main Board

101
Testing the Compressor
Remove the inverter from the compressor by removing one screw (Fig. 1.) Pull the inverter away from the compressor.
Use a small flat-head screwdriver to remove the plug from the compressor terminals. Using an Ohmmeter, check
resistance between compressor terminals (Fig. 4.)
If resistance readings between all pairs of terminals are significantly different replace the compressor.
If resistance readings between all pairs of terminals are the same (+/- 10%), the compressor is good. If
connections between the inverter and compressor are good, replace the inverter.

Thermistors
the fan off. The Freezer display shows current state of
the fan “on” or “OFF”.
Test 58C: Ice Level Sensor Test

Í NOTE
NOTE: Test will start automatically when you enter or
pass test 58.
The ice bucket must be removed from the ice maker
chamber prior to entering this test. The ice maker motor
will run, turning the tray and lowering, then resetting the
bail arm continually until you exit the test. If the bail arm
is allowed to fall freely, the tray will return to the home
position and no alarm will sound. If you hold the bail arm
up as the tray rotates (thus simulating the presence of a
full ice bucket) the alarm will sound as the tray returns to
home position.
Unless both conditions are met, it is a failure of the ice
maker gear box, or a connection between the Ice Maker
and the main board or the UI.
Test 63C: Tray twist test
(See Flow Chart Test #58C)
The ice bucket must be removed from the ice maker
chamber prior to entering this test. Start the test by
pushing ‘power on-off’. The ice maker motor will run
turning the tray. You should see a “1” in the freezer
display and the “GOOD” light should come on if the ice
maker passed the test. If the “GOOD” light does not
come on, the ice maker failed the test.
