YA SYMPOSIUM: "BECOMING A ROLE MODEL OF SUCCESS" (March 23, 2019)

I. WARM UP

- Start with opening prayer (assign one) and Recall the topic last week "What's holding
you back (Part 1 and 2)"

ICE BREAKER QUESTION: Sinong artista o personalidad ang gusto mo maging

balang araw? Ito yung taong talagang hinahangaan mo. (Ask Everyone)

- Thank you for all your answers. Itong mga tao na nabanggit natin ay nag sisilbing role
model sa ating buhay.

- Kung ano at sino sila, yun ang gusto natin maging.

II. INTRODUCTION

- Today, we will talk about becoming a role model of success.

- Marami nang personalidad ngayon ang pwede nating gayahin para tayo ay maging
successful. But as a Christian, our ultimate role model in life is Christ Himself.

- And becoming effective in imitating Christ is success itself! Why? Some people today
are afraid to be like Christ.

- Some people are just imitating other Christians and not imitators of Christ!
- They want to be like Pastor this or that. But we forget that we should be initiating
Christ.

- Because Jesus is the true role model of success. He lived a successful and fulfilled
life. Hindi man Siya mukhang successful sa mata ng mga tao, but in the eyes of God He
is successful. Why? Because Jesus lived His life acvording to His purpose.

- Sucvessful people are those who are living according to their purpose. And one
of our purpose on this earth is to be like Christ!

- This message want to point out that you are a Role Model weither you like it or
not. And in order to be effective, we need to be like Christ. Okay?

III. WORD OF GOD

TEXT:

Ephesian 5:1-2 NKJV

1. Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. 2. And walk in love, as Christ also has
loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-
smelling aroma.

BACKGROUND:

- In this chapter. we are immediately confronted by a passage the demands that we do

the impossible---We are called to be like God and love like He loves. It sounds like
an impossible task. How can we, sinful, human, failing people ever be like Him or love
like Him?
- We will study these two verses. Let this message Convict us, Comfort us,
Challenge us and Change us.

I. THE PERSON TO IMITATE

Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. (v. 1)

- Paul uses in chapter 5 verse 1 the word "therefore". Meaning, he is concluding

chapter 4.

- Paul said that we are saved by the grace of God, and because of that we are to
be different in the way we walk, the way we talk, and the way we think.

- We are to be different in every area of life. The “old man” of sin, with all his evil
desires and appetites is to be “put off,”

- The “new man,” created in righteousness, with his appetite for righteousness and the
glory of God, is to be “put on,”

- Since we have been made a new creature in Jesus, we are to live as new creatures in
our daily lives,

- We should take note that this is a command...

- The command here is for the people of God to imitate Him. We are to learn all we
can about God, and we are to mimic His characteristics.

- But there is a problem. We cannot truly imitate God in every way.

- In CGS, we have this "God's Absolute Attributes" Ito yung mga bagay sa Lord na 'di
natin makakayang gawin gaya ng...

1. Self-Existing

2. Eternal

3. All-present

4. All-power

5. All-knowing

- But guese what, God never commanded us to be like that. We are commanded to
imitate "God's Moral Attributes" ito yung mga bagay na character ni Lord kaya rin
nating gawin.

1. Loving

2. Merciful

3. True

4. Forgiving

5. Humble

LESSON:

- If we want to be like Christ, we need to know Him more through His words.

- We are to do the things we see Him doing, and we are to avoid the things He avoids.

- We are unable to imitate God through our own power. But we have been empowered
to live like, act like, and talk like Christ.
DISCUSSION: Can you give atleast one charater of God that you are good in imitating?

II. PRECEPT TO INITIATE

And walk in love... (v. 2a)

- Tapos na tayo i-imitate si God. Now, we must imitate His love. After all, God is love,

- That is, His very nature is defined by His love. Everything He does, He does out of
love. Kahit minsan tayo ay may mga kinakaharap na pag subok, it's out of God's love.

- The word “walk” means “to regulate one’s life.” Our very lives are to be
controlled, to be driven, to be defined by love.

- The word “love” translates the word “agape.” It is the word that is used to speak
of God’s love for mankind.

ILLUSTATRION:

- In ancient Greece, the word "love" is a very common word. It was often interchanged
with the words for affection and for sexual love.

- Kaya sa lugar nila, kapag nag sabi ka ng "I love you too" kailangan isuko mo na agad
lahat sa kanya. Meaning, meron na dapat mangayre sa inyo kahit 'di pa kayo kasal.

- So the New Testament takes this "common word" to elevate it. This word is
being redeemed to speak of God's almighty love.
- This is the unconditional love. Ito ang klase ng pag ibig na hindi alam ng mundo na
ibigay at ipakita.

- Because people today just love those who loves them. They want a "give or take" kind
of love.

- But God is commanding us to walk in love. But what is the sign? If we obey...

Matthew 22:37-39 NKJV

37. Jesus said to him, “ ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all
your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38. This is the first and great commandment. 39.
And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’

1. We are told to love God supremely

A. The “heart” refers to “the core of our beings.”

B. The “soul” to “the emotions.”

C. The “mind” to “our intelligence, our will, our determination.”

- We are to love Him with our whole person. It should be emotional. It should be a
love based on the knowledge of who God is. It should be a willful love, in which
we are determined to love Him no matter what.

- If we love God, that love will demonstrate itself in every area of our lives.

2. We are to love others as much as we love ourselves

- We love ourselves, don’t we? We do everything we can to meet our own needs.

ILLUSTATION:

- When we are hungry, we eat.

- When we are thirsty, we drink.

- When we are sick, we go to the doctor.

- When we want something, we find a way to get it.

- We take care of self. In the same manner, we are commanded to actively seek
the good of others.

- We are to seek the best for others, in all things, and at all times.

LESSON:

- Kapag mahal natin ai Lord, we become like Him. At kapag katulad na natin Siya, we
can now love like Him!

DISCUSSION: In what way do you imitate God's love to your classmates?

III. PROVISION THAT ILLUSTARTES

...as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to
God for a sweet-smelling aroma. (v. 2b)
- To illustrate what genuine love looks like, Paul calls upon the sacrifice of Jesus
for His people on the cross. The greatest expression of love the world has ever
witnessed was the love that sent Jesus to the cross to die for us.

- His love for us caused Jesus to leave Heaven above to come to this world to live and
die for us.

- He is called an “offering.” His life was poured out on the cross that we might have life
in Him.

- His love for us caused Jesus to bear our sins on the cross. He is called a “sacrifice.”
Because, like a sacrifice, He was slaughtered for our sins.

- His love for the Father caused Jesus to “give Himself” as “a sacrifice to God.” Yes,
Jesus loves us, but He loves His Father far more.

- He did that because He loved us. We are to manifest that same kind of selfless,
self-sacrificing love toward others. Literally, we are to “give ourselves” out of love
for God and others.

- When we practice that kind of love; it is a sacrifice that pleases Him!

- Always love like He loves; forgive like He forgives; blesses like He blesses; walk
like He walked; think like He thinks.

LESSON:

- Genuine love is always measured by what it gives, not by what it gains.

IV. WRAP UP

1. PERSON TO IMITATE---We need to know Jesus more through His words.

2. PRECEPT TO INIATE---Kapag mahal natin ai Lord, we become like Him. At kapag

katulad na natin Siya, we can now love like Him!

3. PROVISION THAT ILLUSTARTES---Genuine love is always measured by what it

gives, not by what it gains.

DISCUSSION: What did you learn from the example of Christ? How can that help you in
becoming a role model?

CONCLUSION:

ILLUSTRATION: "THE RIGHT REFLECTION"

- Lahat tayo siguro araw araw tumitingin sa salamin para tignan ang maganda nating
pag mumukha. Pero di pa natin siguro naiisip kung paano gumagana ang salamin.

- In 1835 German chemist Justis von Liebig devised a process for coating plates of
glass with metallic silver. This was the beginning of the mirror as we know it today and
helped it become a common household item.

- God illustrates His Word as a mirror in...

James 1:22-25 NLT

22. But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are
only fooling yourselves. 23. For if you listen to the word and don’t obey, it is like glancing
at your face in a mirror. 24. You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like.
25. But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it
says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it.

LESSON:

- As we look into God’s Word, it reveals who we really are in light of His holiness.

- God also teaches us that He wants our hearts and lives to be mirrors that reflect His
glory and grace.

- Are you the mirror that God wants you to be? Just as it takes that right material
(silver, which is a precious metal) to make the best mirrors, God desires for our hearts
to be filled with His Spirit so that we can be a clear reflection of His glory.

2 Corinthians 3:18 NCV

Our faces, then, are not covered. We all show the Lord’s glory, and we are being
changed to be like him. This change in us brings ever greater glory, which comes from
the Lord, who is the Spirit.

- As we allow the Holy Spirit of God to control our lives, He can make us the right
reflections He has purposed for us to be.
