texture has given the walls a characterful, aged appearance,’
Jon says. The heavier cladding offered a counterpoint to
the pale, weathered strips of cedarwood on the remaining
walls. To maintain a streamlined look, the guttering was
hidden and the downpipes concealed within columns.
As well as designing the renovation, Jon was involved
with the building work and was on site every day.
‘I became a sort of designer, client, tradesman and project
manager all rolled into one,’ he says. Using the house
as an educational tool for future property investments,
Jon immersed himself in the project. ‘I wanted to do as
much as I could to fully understand the process. It took
longer than it needed to, but it was a necessary learning
curve,’ he says. The bulk of the building started in
October 2015 and ended in the summer of 2017.
Jon took a further year to landscape the garden and
fine tune the project, completing it in August 2018.
The project’s greatest challenges arose out of Jon and
Kay’s desire to make the aesthetics pared-back. The couple Bespoke drawers were designed
