Mr. Hariharan Nadar

Mr. Hariharan Nadar, has been actively involved with numerous social activities from his early
childhood. Having a flair for community welfare was soon accompanied by a family tragedy
Mr.Hariharan witnessed. His mother Late Mrs. Krishnaveni was diagnosed with a lung infection.
Acute shortage of funds and lack of access to the right medical support at the right time caused
the situation to worsen.
It was this heartbreaking event that lead Mr. Hariharan to create a medium to helping hand to
millions underprivileged suffering from life threatening illnesses and lack adequate funds to treat
them. This was the turning point and lead to the birth of Care Assures Foundation in 2013.

concept; we propagate the following values to not only the people working alongside us but also
to a greater mass of people out there. We believe in the following:

 Equality- All of our work is based on respect for the inherent worth and dignity of all
people, and the rights that follow from this understanding.

of the facts, information of the projects undertaken. We are willing to hold

 Cooperation and partnership– We respect the wishes and requirements of our members
and networks – and the communities they serve – and we endeavour to create a shared
voice, working together in a manner that enables us to achieve our shared goals and live
our shared values.
Education
We believe that education is a founding base for bringing about social change. With RTE (Right
of children to free and compulsory Education-Right to Education Act, 2009) coming in the
picture the importance of education has been legally established. Care Assure Foundation
believes education to be a critical factor in empowering the underprivileged and hence works
towards it. We support students in the age group of 6-14 years by providing educational material
such books, stationery, notebooks, etc. We focus on providing assistance to kids residing in
slums and from poor background.

Fifteen-year-old Sharad is one of many kids who have received support for education from Care
assure Foundation. He ran away from home when he was nine because his father was an
alcoholic and would beat him when he got drunk. He lived on the streets for two years. During
the day he would earn money by snatching bags and phones or scavenging rubbish for recycling.
At night, he slept in a cemetery with a gang of other boys.
“We were very poor and my parents were always fighting,” Sharad remembers. “When my father
got drunk he would hit me. It started when I was six years old. He did it just because he felt like
it - he wasn’t himself when he was drunk. That’s when I began thinking I was nothing more than
a burden. A few years later I decided to run away.
"After that I came to Mumbai and started living in the Navi Mumbai Slums. It was very
dangerous. I was in a gang and the other boys were notorious in the area for the theft crimes that
took place. The gang would steal things like mobile phones and we would scavenge for plastic
bottles and electric wire. We would sell recyclable materials to junk shops to get money for food
or drugs.
There were lots of problems on the streets for children like Sharad. "I got into a lot of fights back
then and I would get chased by policemen," he says. "I would get dizzy from hunger and sick
with eye infections. I couldn’t afford to buy any medicine when I was sick. I would beg for
drinks from canteens and wash in the public toilets. Studying didn't even cross my mind. I didn't
know if I could ever go to school."
Things started to get better for Sharad when CAF decided to intervene and provide educational
support to most kids in the same age group in the slums in Navi Mumbai. CAF looks at
developing a long lasting impact by supporting education of street kids in the form of providing
educational material, stationery, uniforms, providing kids and parental counselling.
Today Sharad has calmed down to a great extent and most importantly he likes to study and help
other boys with their homework. He’s more playful and smiles more often. “I feel happy here
because I can study again,” Sharad says. “I have a new life and can be like a normal child. I like
the activities here and the resilience sessions. This is a program to keep us from going astray. It
gives us greater strength and guidance as we grow older.”
Old Age Home
We focus on better living conditions for the destitute elderly. There are 100 million senior
citizens across India; and many are subjected to mental, physical, emotional abuse and cruelty.
There are many who are looked at as an additional burden by their own kith and kin and sent to
shelter homes for spending their remaining life. Care Assure considers these hard hitting facts
and tries its efforts to make a difference in the lives of elderly destitute by bringing a smile on
their face. We donate in kind support in the form of daily necessities, medical assistance and any
other requirements for the elderly shelter homes. We organize recreational programs for the
elderly on various occasions and our volunteers spread happiness and smile among the destitute
elderly by devoting their time and effort.
Orphanages
At Care Assure we focus on Child health and well-being. There are millions of children in the
age group of 6-14 who lack the requisite support system for dreaming of a rewarding future.
They do not a have a family to call their own. We provide support to orphaned, abandoned,
destitute children by visiting orphanages, supporting them with essential requirements such as
educational material, stationary, improvement in the living conditions of the children at shelter
homes.
Food And Nutrition
According to the NDTV report, December’ 2013-9000 children go hungry each day in Mumbai.
These startling figures have indicated that hunger is a major cause in Mumbai that out to be
drawn attention to. Care Assure has undertaken various community involvement projects where
in we have conducted free food distribution drives in support of this noble cause.
Health
When her father died of AIDS in 2003, Meena was just three years old, and only two years later
her mother died of the same disease. The young girl fell into the care of her grandmother.
But her hardships were not over. When she suddenly began to lose weight while in primary
school a doctor advised a blood test, it found she was HIV positive. She was 12 years old by
then.
The shock of the news and subsequent treatment provided by a private HIV/AIDS clinic in the
vicinity forced her to leave school for a year. After she regained strength and the condition was
brought under control, she returned with the help of the clinic’s staff.
Now she is completing her ninth grade exam and Meena says that she wants to become a nurse.
Her situation, however tragic, is better than that of most children in India who have been infected
by HIV/AIDS, or who lost their parents to the disease. Many of the children struggle to continue
their education due to a lack of money or because of stigma surrounding the diseases Services to
help children affected by the disease are limited. Care Assure Foundation has a tie up with more
than 50 hospitals and strives to support more people like Meena. Our aim is to give a new ray of
hope for many underprivileged in the same manner.
