PACING
INTRODUCTION:
Pacing is used for measuring distance for rough and steady work.Pacing can also be used with a
map. In the field, pacing can be used to accomplish the correct distances referred by a map.
Traversing a property line or boundary where distance and length are important produces
opportunities for pacing to be applied to record accurate data.Pacing is a reasonably easy and
quick method of measuring distance in the field. It is used to measure a distance and is often
used with a sighting or hand compass.Most commonly, pacing is split up into segments, such as
chains,which are set measures of distance. By determining one's own pace, distance can easily
be estimated.
OBJECTIVES:
To determine the individual pace factor
APPARATUS:
Measuring tape
Rod
PROCEDURE:
a.Select a straight and level course and on both sides establish points A and B.
b.Set a range poles on A and B.
c.walk on the natural steps starting with either heel ot toe over point A and count the
number of paces to reach point B.Record the number of paces as trial 1.
d.For the next trial walk from point B to A then from A to B again until 5 trials are completed
and record the number of paces accordingly.
e.Determine the mean number of paces by dividing the sum of number.
DATA RECORD:
Average step = 40+41/2
=40.5
One step = open tape/average step
=30/40.5
=0.74 m
=0.74*3.28
One step=2.427ft
CALCULATIONS:
Lawn:
Length=2.4*51.5
=123.6ft
Width=2.4*42.5
= 102ft
Area=l*w
=123.6*102
=12607 sq.ft
=12607/10.75
Length=L=7*2.4
L=16.8ft
L1=L2,W1=W2
Width=W=5*2.4
=12ft
Area=204.9 sq.ft
Area=204.9/10.75
=19.045 square meter
Mechanical department:
L1=42*2.4
=101.22ft
L2=43*2.4
=103.63ft
W1=30*2.4
=72.3ft
W2=26*2.4
=62.6ft
Area=102.425*67.48
=6911.639 sq.ft
A=6911.639/10.75
=642.91 sq.meter
DISCUSSION:
Pacing can also be used with a map.In the field,pacing can be used to find to correct
length are essential for pacing can be applied to record accurate data.
COMMENTS:
In this method area of the ground can be measured without using equipments.This method
