MORNING PRAYERS

Advent – Christmas – Ordinary Time

-CSC-
Advent – General Part

ADVENT
General part
Invitatory
Lord, open my lips.
- And my mouth shall proclaim your praise.
Psalm 95 is the traditional Invitatory Psalm. Psalm 24, 67, or 100 may be substituted.

Antiphon:
Come let us worship the Lord, the King who is to come.
HYMN:
Hear the Herald Voice Resounding

Hear the herald voice resounding:

“Christ is near,” it seems to say,
Cast away the dreams of darkness,
Welcome Christ, the light of day!”
Wakened by this solemn warning,
Let the earthbound soul arise;
Christ her sun, all sloth dispelling,
Shines upon the morning skies.
See the Lamb so long expected,
Comes with pardon down from heav’n;
Hasten now, with tears of sorrow,
One and all to be forgiv’n.
So when next he comes with glory,
Shrouding all the earth in fear,
May he then as our defender
On the clouds of heav’n appear.
Honor, glory, virtue, merit,
To the Father and the Son,

EPIPHANY

Invitatory Antiphon:
Christ has appeared to us; Come let us adore him.
Ps 94 (95)
HYMN

Brightest and best of the sons of the morning,

Dawn on our darkness and lend us Thine aid;
Star of the East, the horizon adorning,
Guide where our infant Redeemer is laid.
Cold on His cradle the dewdrops are shining;
Low lies His head with the beasts of the stall;
Angels adore Him in slumber reclining,
Maker and Monarch and Savior of all!
Say, shall we yield Him, in costly devotion,
Odors of Edom and offerings divine?
Gems of the mountain and pearls of the ocean,
Myrrh from the forest, or gold from the mine?
Vainly we offer each ample oblation,
Vainly with gifts would His favor secure;
Richer by far is the heart’s adoration,
Dearer to God are the prayers of the poor.

glad tidings, Announcing peace, bearing good news, announcing
salvation, and saying to Zion, "Your God is King!" Hark! Your

directly, before their eyes, the Lord restoring Zion. Break out

Although they had seen all of my works.

I. Sunday

After this I had a vision of a great multitude, which no one

could count, from every nation, race, people, and tongue. They
stood before the throne and before the Lamb, wearing white
robes and holding palm branches in their hands. They cried
out in a loud voice: "Salvation comes from our God, who is
seated on the throne, and from the Lamb." All the angels stood
around the throne and around the elders and the four living
creatures. They prostrated themselves before the throne,
worshiped God, and exclaimed: "Amen. Blessing and glory,
wisdom and thanksgiving, honor, power, and might be to our
God forever and ever. Amen."

RESPONSORY
Christ, Son of the living God, have mercy on us.
- Christ, Son of the living God, have mercy on us.
You are seated at the right hand of the Father,
- have mercy on us.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
- Christ, Son of the living God, have mercy on us.

HYMN

On this day, the first of days,

God the Father’s Name we praise;
Who, creation’s Lord and Spring
Did the world from darkness bring.
On this day the eternal Son
Over death His triumph won;
On this day the Spirit came
With His gifts of living flame.
Father, who didst fashion me
Image of Thyself to be,
Fill me with Thy love divine,
Let my every thought be Thine.
Word made flesh, all hail to thee
Thou from sin hast set us free;
And with thee we die and rise
Unto God in sacrifice.
Holy Spirit, you impart
Gifts of love to every heart;
Give us light and grace, we pray,
Fill our hearts this holy day.
God, the blessed Three in One,
May thy holy will be done;
In thy word our souls are free.

Benedictus

BENEDICTUS
Luke 1: 68-79

Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel; *

he has come to his people and set them free.
He has raised up for us a mighty savior, *
born of the house of his servant David.
Through his holy prophets he promised of old,
that he would save us from our enemies, *
from the hands of all who hate us.
He promised to show mercy to our fathers *
and to remember his holy covenant.
This was the oath he swore to our father Abraham, *
to set us free from the hands of our enemies,
Free to worship him without fear, *
holy and righteous in his sight
all the days of our life.
You, my child, shall be called the prophet of the Most High, *
for you will go before the Lord to prepare his way,
To give his people knowledge of salvation *
by the forgiveness of their sins.
In the tender compassion of our God *
the dawn from on high shall break upon us,
To shine on those who dwell in darkness
and the shadow of death, *
and to guide our feet into the way of peace.
