Socializing Online

In recent discussions of social analysts, a controversial issue has been whether these social media
platforms, such as Facebook, made the world smaller. On the one hand, some argue that is replacing
real-time social interactions. From this perspective, are these platforms really true social platforms or
some reason that lead us to avoid people. On the other hand, however, others argue that these allow
them to connect to their loved- ones without spending money to move from one place to another. In
the words of one of this view’s main proponents, “social media replaces real-time social interaction.”
According to this view, socializing is a lot easier and flexible but less in having social attachments. In
sum, then, the issue is whether it aims to connect users for long-lasting relationships or allow users to
make friends then replacing them as fast as couples break-up today.

My own view is that these social media platforms create gap between people. Though I concede that it
really helps in connecting to know the whereabouts of someone, I still maintain that it is not the best
way to socialize. Although some might object that since almost everyone has an account then it is easier
to just do things online, I reply that it removes us the experience of having to spend time and have fun.
The issue is important because people nowadays rely on social media instead of going out of their rooms
to have eye to eye conversations.
