What is Wine?

Wine (originally an acronym for "Wine Is Not an Emulator") is a compatibility layer capable of
running Windows applications on several POSIX-compliant operating systems, such as Linux,
macOS, & BSD. Instead of simulating internal Windows logic like a virtual machine or emulator,
Wine translates Windows API calls into POSIX calls on-the-fly, eliminating the performance and
memory penalties of other methods and allowing you to cleanly integrate Windows applications
into your desktop.

The Wine development release 4.4 is now available.

What's new (/announce/4.4) in this release:

New MSIDB tool for manipulating MSI databases.

Support for custom draw buttons in common controls.
Many more Media Foundation APIs implemented.
 Various bug fixes.

The source is available now (//dl.winehq.org/wine/source/4.x/wine-4.4.tar.xz). Binary packages

are in the process of being built, and will appear soon at their respective download locations
