This experiment aims to apply the principle of conservation of momentum to determine the common velocity of two cars after a collision. Three identical cars, a track, timer, ruler, scale and Velcro are used. When two bodies collide and no external forces act, their total momentum remains constant. The cars are weighed and Velcro is used to make them stick together after collisions. One car is timed as it moves down the track and hits another at rest. The experiment finds that the total momentum before and after collisions remains the same, allowing the common velocity after collisions to be calculated. Extending it to three cars colliding confirms conservation of momentum.
