Reflection
For my senior project I shadowed at a gym, kept a shadowing journal, wrote a letter of intent,
wrote a research paper, came up a with a product prospectus, created a website, made a
slideshow, and made three pamphlets for my product. It took all year and many hours to
complete this project. I spent 20 hours shadowing a gym owner at Barefoot Fitness, it took about
an hour to write my shadowing journals, my letter of intent took about an hour, the research
paper took at least 10 hours, if not more, my product prospectus took an hour, it took 2 hours to
create my website, my slideshow took about an hour to make, and my product took around 5
hours to create.
I faced a few challenges throughout creating my senior project. My biggest one was
trying to pinpoint a research topic and find credible information for it. It was very hard to narrow
down my research subject to why you should start your fitness journey with a personal trainer.
Even after I found my research topic, it was very difficult to find information about it. Once I did
though, my research paper came easily. The words flowed and I had many pages in no time.
I would say in some ways I managed my time well and in some ways I did not.
Sometimes I would feel super motivated and get a lot done for my project. Other times, I was
really just feeling senioritis and I would do things at the last minute. I definitely felt better
prepared when I got things done ahead of time. When I procrastinated, I felt very stressed. For
the most part, I kept myself on task and worked hard all year.
I have learned and gained so much from this experience. I chose to shadow a workout
instructor because I have a passion for working out. My senior project helped me learn more
about fitness and decide if I wanted to be a fitness instructor. I was able to learn how to break
down a lift, how to teach students step by step how to do an exercise, and how to create a
workout routine.
I decided I want a fitness trainer certification and that I loved everything about it. I love
teaching others how to better themselves and I enjoy learning new ways to workout. This
experience definitely helped me plan for the future. I know what I want to do and I am so excited
I think that my presentation will go well. My practice one went a lot better than I had
expected, so I’m sure the official presentation will go just as well if not better. I will admit, I am
not the most tech savvy person. I ended up needing help with the technical part of my
presentation. Hopefully that doesn’t end up being a problem again. I did do very well with eye
Before my presentation I need to write more notes on my slides, work on talking more
about my product, remember to shake my panel’s hands, and talk to Mr.Rudebusch on how to
figure out the technical portion. Those are the few kinks I would like to work out.
I hope my panel can see how hard I’ve worked. I hope they can see the time and
dedication I put into my senior project. I want them to be able to understand what I am saying
about fitness and that they would get a basic idea of a fitness trainer’s job. I want the panel to
understand my product’s purpose, how it works, and how they could accomplish 3 basic lifts.
I would give myself an A. I am not saying that to be conceited. I have shown and proved
myself throughout the project. I believe I have put out so much time and effort into my project,
so I would give myself an A. I gained so much from this experience and I am thankful for it.
