1.Why do you wish to pursue a Research based Programme?

I’ve always been interested to learn how stuff works and functions,im generally curious in my approach
towards life.I wish to pursue a career in research because i want to contribute towards furthering my
chosen field.I have done my Btech in Electrical and Electronics from NITC..I was interested in Control
systems and when i decided i wanted to go for higher studies, I looked for areas similar to it. I came upon
Machine learning and its applications when i presented my seminar topic for Btech in SLAM(simultaneous
localization and mapping) .I researched the basic theories for it and their advancements, and gave a
seminar on the different approaches and how they influenced the performance of the estimation. I worked
on projects related to Electrical engineering in my Btech.I am interested in an MS course from IIITH
because of its reputation as a premiere research institute in india.I want to learn research methodologies
and know more about the fields of research i am interested in.

2.What career option do you plan (at present) to pursue?

At present, i plan on pursuing a masters degree and getting a taste of how research is conducted, and will
consider pursuing a phd after that. After examining various areas of research ,natural language processing
and machine learning struck me to be very interesting as my areas of study.Natural language
processing(NLP) is a branch of AI that is concerned with using computers to process human or natural
languages ,both by understanding human language and generating it for communication with the user.
Data and information is created at huge scales in today’s world throughout the world. Using NLP
applications for this data potentially has a huge impact in everyone’s lives.Imagine searching for a very
complex query using human language as it is and getting an accurate result for it.I am especially
interested in text summarization and information extraction. For example, this has an application in
extracting medical problems from clinical text documents.

3.If you have some work experience, what kind of work were you engaged in and did that in
some way help you decide on research?

I worked for Capgemini as a Senior Software Engineer for 10 months right out of college.I was trained in
IBM’s Master Data Management,a tool that manages all aspects of critical enterprise data, and delivers it
to the application users in a single, trusted 360 degree view.I once again came upon machine learning
and its applications when i started working as a software engineer at Capgemini, and sought to learn
more about it.The interactions i had with my colleagues who were working on data science and machine
learning projects inspired me to take up higher studies in related areas.
