Las utopías contemporáneas han dejado de situarse en lugares

imaginarios y hacen del futuro el territorio en el que imaginar otros mundos
posibles. Este salto ha permitido que, tras la exploración geográfica de la
práctica totalidad del planeta, siga habiendo espacio para que la creatividad
desafíe al orden establecido planteando formas alternativas de vivir. Los
artistas plásticos, al igual que los escritores y los cineastas han demostrado a
lo largo de los últimos siglos que sigue siendo posible explorar mundos
posibles e imposibles como forma de ampliar nuestra libertad de pensamiento
y de crítica de lo existente.
Bajo el título Mundos (im)posibles: Futuro y utopía en la literatura, el
cine y el arte, convocamos este Congreso internacional en Madrid para
dialogar en torno a las formas que el futuro ha adoptado en estos campos de
la creación. Lo hacemos convencidos de que el pensamiento utópico y
distópico sigue estando activo y muestra su vitalidad en algunos géneros del
arte, del cine y de la literatura, cambiando de forma a lo largo del tiempo,
pero siempre incitando a no conformarse con lo ya conocido. Series de
televisión y videojuegos, por ejemplo, son espacios nuevos con los que han
empezado a pensar el futuro de manera creciente las generaciones jóvenes
de la segunda mitad del siglo XX y del siglo XXI. Sin duda hay componentes
positivos en esta capacidad para mirar hacia delante, en una época
fundamentalmente revisionista, volcada hacia el pasado y la memoria: una
época, sin embargo, huérfana de conciencia histórica, pues el revisionismo
hegemónico opera con fragmentos estereotipados del pasado cuya
rehabilitación mercantilista pretende situarnos en el final de la historia. Frente
a este panorama ideológicamente retrospectivo, proponemos un giro
prospectivo que reivindique el futuro como espacio simbólico de
emancipación colectiva y como territorio de lo nuevo e imprevisto.
El Congreso pretende proporcionar un espacio para profundizar en el
análisis de todos los productos culturales que han trabajado con la noción
del futuro y de la utopía a lo largo de los dos últimos siglos y hasta la
actualidad; y también para reflexionar sobre la recepción y el impacto que
tales productos han tenido y tienen sobre la formación de mundos venideros.
Pretendemos hacerlo desde una perspectiva transdisciplinar, invitando a los
investigadores de Historia, Arte, Filosofía, Filología, Estudios literarios,
Estudios culturales, Antropología, Sociología, Ciencia política, Estudios del
cine y otros campos interesados en un objeto de estudio tan rico y esquivo
como es el tiempo futuro. El cruce de miradas diversas y la contextualización
de las obras concretas nos permitirá interrogarnos sobre el sentido que
damos al futuro y sobre cómo podemos poblarlo de libertad, esperanza e
imaginación creativa.

ORGANIZACIÓN

El Congreso se desarrollará el 25, 26 y 27 de octubre (miércoles,

jueves y viernes) de 2017, en el Centro Cultural La Corrala (C/ Carlos
Arniches, 3 y 5, 28005 – Madrid).

PARA PRESENTAR PROPUESTAS

Los interesados en participar en el Congreso deben enviar sus

propuestas de ponencias antes del 1 de junio de 2017 a
redutopias@gmail.com , incluyendo: título, autor y resumen entre 250 y 500
palabras. Junto al nombre del autor o autores de la propuesta deben indicar
la institución académica, organización, movimiento o comunidad a la que
pertenecen. Los idiomas del Congreso serán el español y el inglés,
indistintamente.
Un comité científico seleccionará las ponencias en función de su interés
y calidad, teniendo en cuenta el tiempo y el espacio disponibles para las
reuniones.

(Im)possible Worlds:
Future and Utopia in Literature, Cinema, and Art

Nowadays, contemporary utopias are not usually set in imaginary

places, but use the future as a territory where possible worlds are imagined.
By showing alternative lifestyles, these future worlds have allowed human
creativity to still challenge the established order even after our whole planet is
now well-known to Geography. Artists, writers and filmmakers have shown
over the last centuries that it remains possible to explore possible and
impossible worlds in order to expand our freedom of thought and of
questioning the existing order.
Under the title (Im)Possible Worlds: Future and Utopia in
Literature, Film and the Arts, this conference will provide an occasion to
debate the shape of things to come in these different fields of creation. We
believe that utopian and dystopian thinking is very much alive in the arts, film
and literary fiction. It has evolved over time, but it has always been an
incentive for us not to uncritically accept what is already known. For example,
TV series and video games are new media through which the younger
generations from the second half of the twentieth century and today have
become familiar with the future. There are certainly positive elements in this
capacity to look forward in an age rather focusing on memory and the past,
despite its lack of historical awareness. Historical revisionism, prevalent
nowadays, operates with stereotyped fragments from the past, whereas their
commercial use aims to place us at the end of history. Against this
ideologically retrospective background, we propose a prospective turn
reclaiming the future as a symbolic venue for collective emancipation and as
a territory where the new and the unexpected prevail.
 This conference's goal is to provide a forum for further analysis of all
cultural products dealing with the idea of the future and utopia over the past
two centuries, up to now, as well as to reflect on the reception and the impact
of those products on the creation of future worlds. We do so in a
multidisciplinary way, by inviting interested scholars in art, history,
philosophy, philology, cultural and literary studies, sociology, anthropology,
political science, film studies and other fields to discuss the future as a rich, as
well as elusive, topic. The different views on the works and their context will
allow us to ask ourselves how we give meaning to the future and how we can
help to turn it into a time of freedom, hope and creative imagination.

ORGANISATION

The conference will take place on October the 25th, 26th and 27th
(Wednesday, Thursday and Friday) 2017 at Centro Cultural La Corrala (C/
Carlos Arniches, 3 and 5, 28005 — Madrid).

HOW TO SUBMIT PROPOSALS

If you are interested in attending this conference as a speaker, you

should send your name and the title and abstract (250-500 words) of your
paper by June the 1st 2017 to redutopias@gmail.com. You should also
mention your academic affiliation or your organisation, movement or
community. The languages in this conference will be Spanish and English.
A scientific committee will select the papers according to their interest
and quality, taking into account the time and space available for the
conference sessions.
