I am writing to express my interest in the Curatorial Assistant position at The Whitney Museum
of American Art. As an artist myself with a passion for art history, I aspire to a fulfilling curatorial
career, surrounded by the art which inspires me. The Whitney Museum is a core supporter of
Modern and Contemporary art, the area of my focus, and is certainly one of the most influential
museums in the country. After reading the job description, I feel that my experience and skills,
along with my dedication and knowledge of art and art history are a perfect match for this
position. I would be grateful for the opportunity to meet with you and discuss this further.

Over the past several years, I have participated in a multitude of public art installations, gallery
shows, art competitions, and workshops with professional artists. For three consecutive years, I
installed and exhibited work in Scottsdale Museum for Contemporary Art for their Visions
educational art program. In Spring of 2019 I participated in an internship at Phoenix Art Museum
in the Modern and Contemporary curatorial department, assisting with the preparation of
exhibitions such as Agnes Pelton: Desert Transcendentalist, which is scheduled to be traveling
to the Whitney in 2020. I am passionate about curatorial work, and continually build on my past
experiences to strive towards reaching my career goals for the future. My curatorial experience
includes:

 Knowledge of The Museum System database.

 Writing and research regarding artist biographies, exhibition texts, gallery labels, etc.
 Curating installations of museum accessioned work.
 Checklist development.
 Collaborating with staff from other museum departments.
 Correspondence, filing, mailings, etc.

I am a quick learner and an ambitious, dedicated student and employee. I am consistently able
to meet deadlines, communicate effectively, work independently or as part of a team, and
manage multiple priorities. I am extremely grateful to the educators, artists, and other
professionals who have mentored me over the years and provided me with the encouragement
and opportunities that allowed me to grow exponentially as an artist, a scholar, and an
individual. As I will be graduating from Arizona State University next May with a B.A. in Art
History, my educational background as well as my real-world experience match the job
description posted on your website. I feel that I can bring reliable and efficient writing and
research skills, as well as my other practical museum experience, to this position and your
institution.

It would be a privilege to bring the skills I’ve gained so far to this institution and work with the
Whitney’s incredible collection and staff. I hope to have the opportunity to join your team and
begin my professional career at one of the museums that has been the most inspirational for
