The many calls for unity underscore an underlying tension, if not an outright conflict, within the
Body of Christ. Our collective conscience is not at peace because we are clinging to an untenable
and unethical position: Adventist women in pastoral ministry have our blessing to do their work as long
as they are not ordained. Can we sustain such an unethical position and still hope for unity?
Or are we ready to do the hard work of real unity through the exercise of justice and the tools of
conflict resolution, i.e. careful listening, respectful dialogue, honest storytelling, forgiveness,
and reconciliation?
