CHAPTER 5

CONCLUSIONS

Al 6061 SiC FGMMC with different compositions have been

successfully fabricated by horizontal centrifugal casting process. The
hardness result shows higher volume percentage of ceramic particle is
obtained at the outer periphery of the casting as compared to the inner
periphery of the casting. Similarly, wear result shows increase in wear
resistance when the reinforcement is increased. Due to the high volume
fraction obtained at the outer periphery, which may lead to selective
improvement in the hardness at the outer periphery of the casting. Thus,
increasing the reinforcement composition improves the strength in matrix
materials.
