Pathway Director of a drama

Project Title Chance

Section 1: Rationale (Approx 100 words)

After doing a crime drama, a horror drama and a multi camera studio production, I
have decided that for my final project I am going to do a drama. This is due to my
experience of society’s views of disabled people and my desire to play on and subvert
this concept. My previous experience in drama taught me the importance of a good
relationship between the director and the camera operators, and the director and the
actors, because the director needs a clear idea of what to portray and to explain that
concept to the rest of the crew.
Section 2: Project Concept (approx 200 words)
My project will be a drama that deals with society’s perception of disabled people and
how society should act around them. Within the plot of a disabled person going on a
blind date, my aim is to play on the assumption that society must treat disabled people
differently, as if we need taking care of or pitied.
My target audience will be disabled people of all ages, because everyone with a
disability will be able to relate to this scenario, as well as able-bodied individuals who
might have judged and should be educated with a different perspective.
To develop this idea, I have and will continue to research shows with a similar concept
such as “Jerk” and “The Undateables”. These shows demonstrate that once you get to
know a person, their disability doesn’t have an impact on their identity. They also
provide a comedic situation which would draw in all sorts of audience members.
Although there is an increase in the portrayal of disabilities on-screen, I feel that other
shows who portray disabilities don’t do it with disabled actors and this means that there
is a gap in the market for such a show.
Section 3: Evaluation Methods (approx 50 words)

I will write a weekly blog update to track my progress, where I will
conduct more research on my target audience to see how they like the format so far. I
will also gather audience feedback at different intervals in the process, such as the
rough edit and the final product.
Proposed Research Sources and Bibliography (Harvard Format)

So far, I have researched: Jerk, The Undateables.

Project Proposal – Unit 08

Project Action Plan and Timetable

This section provides you with an opportunity to outline your planning and organisation over a period of
weeks, and the activities you will need to carry out in order to successful complete your project within the
agreed time frame. It is important that you consider how you will balance ambition, time and realism in
the realisation of the project.
This should include what you are going to do, how you will do it and by when. The more time and thought
you give to
planning your project, the more successful it is likely to be. Remember to include: time spent sourcing
materials,
questionnaires, access to workshops, tutorial and peer group feedback, and where you will incorporate
independent study
