AEP LESSON PLAN TEMPLATE

Teachers’ Names: Riley Frady, Aaliyah Cannon, Garret Harper, Joshua Jackson

Art lesson title: Alberto Giacometti-Tin Man

Alberto Giacometti - 4th grade lesson - Used pipe cleaners (the BIG ones) wrapped in
aluminum foil and hot glued on a mat board base.

Grade/age Level: 4th (13 students)

Rationale:
On a larger scale, Alberto Giacometti uses his artwork to show expression through different
formations. In this lesson, we used the influence of different body formations when creating
sculpture. Anything can inspire and be art, which is shown through his art work. Body formation is
not the only thing that can influence a sculpture. Sculptures can be influenced by anything and
demonstrated by architecture, clay, paint, nature, etc.

***Assessment strategies:
Students will develop a personalized artist statement after constructing their unique
structure. This statement will include:
● Why the students constructed their sculpture the way they did in reference to what
their favorite thing to do is or something about them.
● The statement will also include the difficulties they faced while making the sculpture
and how they overcame their difficulties.
The formal assessment is documentation of the students’ work and the informal assessment
is a peer-assessment. Students will help each other and talk to each other about how they
are individually sculpting their piece. To add to the informal assessment, we, as teachers
will walk around and check on students and make sure they are using materials, correctly
and answer any questions, and provide constructive feedback.

Lesson Sequence:
1. (4 minutes) Ice breaker (ask students to introduce themselves (name, favorite subject). Then
ask them to form a shape/stance that represents something about them (what they like to
do, etc.)
2. (5 minutes) Show students a picture of Alberto’s work and history through powerpoint/tell
a story/show an example of our sculptures
3. (3 minutes) Instruct the students to create their own sculpture and how they can build their
own.
4. (2 minutes) TRANSITION-Have supplies at each table, (pre-cut aluminum foil) and have an
adult operating the hot glue gun.
5. (10 minutes) Have students start their sculptures and come to the glue table when it is time
to glue down their sculpture. We create a sculpture during this time too to help demonstrate
to students ways to complete their sturcture.
6. (5 minutes) After allotted time to create sculpture, we will regroup to discuss the following:
show their sculpture, tell the story behind it/why they created it.
7. (1 minute) Clean up

Materials, supplies, tools, visuals, and equipment:
