Fashion is my Rage

Fashion has changed my view of the world. They are not just pieces of clothing, they are

works of art. Fashion shows expression of an individual's personality and attitude. Clothing is a

bridge between you and everyone else. It can express what you love, what you are interested in

and who you are. It is a conversation starter and an icebreaker to get to know someone. Fashion

is what helped me when I had no idea how to approach others.

I’m fascinated by the history of fashion and it’s prominent moments. The fabrics,

silhouettes, and hemlines show so much about the cultural currency of an era. You don’t have to

be a designer to appreciate fashion or have the desire to pass through the prism of style. My mind

always travels to fashion moments in history that inspire me. One of my favorite moments in

history is the platform sneaker trend. I love a good thick shoe that has some height depth to it. It

catches the human eyes more so than most other shoes. I like how the platform sneaker make

your legs to appear longer and flows together with flare jeans. I take a piece of that history and

twist it a little and it suddenly it becomes something that is brand new and uniquely me.

Most people buy brand new clothes from all sorts of places. This causes distress on our

environment over time. With all that goes into the process of creating new clothes, such as using

more materials and the impact it leaves on the world, it just isn’t worth it. It takes about 100

gallons of water to grow and process a single pound of cotton. The average american goes
through about 35 pounds of new cotton material each year. Go to your local thrift, vintage and

antique shops and buy used items to incorporate into your wardrobes. This will help cut down on

materials that are used to make brand new clothes that are affecting our environment.

Alexander McQueen once said, “Fashion should be a form of escapism, and not a form of

imprisonment.” McQueen knew how to find the beauty in things that everyday people would

usually find grotesque and vile. He would take a time in an era and create it into a story on the

runway. Taking risks in the fashion world is imperative when you want to make a name for

yourself. I aspire to be an influencer within the fashion business. To contrast spirals of the

imagination that is chaotic, but in order. To create a attraction to my art. And to show different

parts and sides of my personality, interests and to express love, when I assemble an outfit. Where

would we be without fashion? The world would be lost without it. Our world would be dull and

dreary without the depth that clothes gives us, we would lose our expression of character.
