Corrosion Scanning with Handheld DM Array Probe
Customer Need Application
Historically, ultrasonic corrosion surveys have been conducted Inspection of assets subject to internal corrosion and erosive
with point measurement probes taking a grid of points over a given wall loss such as piping, storage tanks, and other critical assets;
area. Unfortunately, this method provides an incomplete picture requiring visual display and confirmation of remaining wall
which makes it likely that the true minimum of a given inspection thickness.
area is never detected.

Customer Solution Ultrasonic (Phased Array)
By using BHGE's handheld DM Array Probe, the suspect area can be
100% scanned to locate the true minimum thicknesses--as well as
any random pitting or damage that may exist. This provides a much Industry

Corrosion Mapping with Single-Axis Scanner
Customer Need Application
Single line scans are frequently stitched together to create Inspection of assets subject to internal corrosion and erosive
corrosion maps. This may happen because a two-axis scanner is wall loss such as piping, storage tanks, and other critical assets;
unavailable or sufficient space does not exist to properly attach requiring mapping and visual display of remaining wall thickness.
the larger scanner to the asset. Often, this stitching exercise is a Hand-held encoded scanner with manual indexing for efficient
cumbersome process that may delay delivery of the final report. corrosion inspections.
The possibility of error is also increased by using an offline stitching
process.
Modality
Ultrasonic (Phased Array)
Customer Solution
By utilizing the Manual Indexing feature of BHGE's Mentor UT,
these maps can be created in real time with a single-axis scanner. Industry
Operators simply set up the device as they would a two-axis Oil & Gas and Power Generation
scanner. After the first line scan of data is collected, the scanner is
moved over to the beginning of the 2nd pass. This second line scan
of data is collected and mapped in the proper location in real time.
