tested with ABB Micafil bushings

Pilot Project: Activities and results

− Task: Retro-fit a 400 kV transformer (200 MVA)
for use with natural ester oil instead of mineral
oil

− Successfully performed dielectric and thermal

type tests on HV and LV bushings in natural
and synthetic ester oil (FR3 and Midel 7131)

− The transformer including the ABB Micafil

bushings successfully passed the factory
acceptance test performed in October 2016

With its 200MVA it is the most powerful single-

phase transformer filled with ester oil in the
market today.

Bushing for the largest UHVDC transmission link in China

The most powerful HVDC bushings in the world

− April 2017 - GGF1100 successfully passed
1427kV AC Withstand, 2530kV Lightning and
2310kV Switching Impulses type test as well
as 2060kV DC Withstand, 1594kV DC Polarity
Reversal test and finally 7500A Temperature
Rise test.
− The GGF bushing is regarded as a dry, SF6
enhanced converter transformer bushing
− It will help transmit 12GW of hydropower
electricity over 3,400 km from inland to the
eastern coastal part of China.

GGF1100 bushing is 40 percent longer and three

times heavier than similar 800kVdc bushings
currently in operation.
