DIFFERENT KINDS OF NOUNS

1. Countable and Uncountable Nouns


Countable Nouns
→ refer to things that can be counted.

E.g 1. Rohan has two bags.


2. I have five pencils.
Please give examples of a countable noun.

Uncountable Nouns
→ refer to things that cannot be counted
→ thay are always singular in form.

E.g 1. I like sugar.


2. He has little milk.
?: Can you count sugar and milk? NO
Please give examples of a uncountable noun.

2. Singular and Plural
a. Singular Noun
→ refers to one person or one thing.

E.g 1. A boy
2. A leaf
3. A pen
Please give examples of a singular noun.

b. Plural Noun
→ refers to more than one or thing.
NOTE: plural nouns are made by the addition of s, es, ies, or ves.

E.g 1. boy + s → boys


2. bus + es → buses
To add -i , +es, nouns ending in y, change y to -i and add -es.
3. bunny → bunni + es → bunnies
4. leaf → leav + es → leaves
loaf → loav + es → loaves

3. Compound Nouns
→ refer to the new word formed by combining two or more words.

E.g 1. class + room → classroom


2. ice + cream → ice cream
3. bed + room → bedroom
