Firehouse expansion begins

Page 10 VOLUME 3, NUMBER 1 EARLY AUTUMN, 2010

with Groundbreaking in Albrightsville

by Seth Isenberg
Local fire companies are modernizing. Expansion plans are
being discussed for Penn Forest Township #2, and Penn Forest
Township #1 is undergoing extensive renovations. The Lake
Harmony Volunteer Fire Department is working on replacing its
fire house.. Kidder Township Volunteer Fire Company No. 1
recently dedicated a new engine, as did Tobyhanna and
Tunkhannock Township Volunteer Fire Companies.
On October 2, Albrightsville Volunteer Fire Company, which
counts many Penn Forest Township residents as members,
broke ground for a new three-bay garage. The new building will
offer wider doors for the newest equipment, and allow for all the
companyʼs firefighting equipment to be in one place.
The Walter Kibler family donated the land where the AVFC is
located. At the groundbreaking, the family was honored with the
presentation of a bronze plaque that will be mounted on the new
building. They also received a wall plaque to take home.
A $200,000 community development grant was obtained with
the assistance of State Representative Keith McCall, who was
invited to the groundbreaking but unable to attend. An additional
$200,000 will have to be raised to complete the project.
Carbon County Commissioners Wayne Nothstein and Charlie
Getz were on hand to take part in the groundbreaking; Getz was
one of the founders of the fire company. Also invited to the cer-
emony but not present were the five Kidder Township supervi-
sors.
