STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

I am excited to be applying for the Lead Scientist, Ecoinformatics and Information Science
Initiative position at Ashoka Trust For Research in Ecology and the Environment (ATREE).
With my academic background, Internship at renowned institutes like ISRO, ISI, I consider
myself highly suitable for this position. As someone who is highly inquisitive and analytical,
I am skilled at implementing methodology and analyzing the results of research.

I have always been a very hardworking student who has excelled academically. I have done
my B.Sc (Honours) in Geography from Shri Shikshayatan College, Kolkata, West Bengal;
University of Calcutta,2013-2016. I have always dreamed of becoming a research scientist. I
have a Masters degree in Geoinformatics from Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune,
Maharashtra,2016-2018. I have done one year internship at RRSC-East, NRSC, ISRO,
Kolkata during my M.Sc final year. During this period, I had undertaken the study
of:“Classification of Mangrove Forests and Mapping their Health Spatially Using AVIRIS-
NG hyper-spectral data: A case study of Indian Sunderbans”. I have further done a 2 months
internship at Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) Kolkata, "A Study On Temporal Variation In
TRMM-Based Monsoonal Precipitation in the Upper Catchment of the Kosi River". My
Participation was rated as excellent, (May and June 2017).My research work is published in
the ‘INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF INTEGRATED RESEARCH AND
DEVELOPMENT’ (ISSN: 2278-8670) and I have presented this paper in National Level
Conference "THE APPLICATION OF GEO SPATIAL TECHNOLOGY IN RESEARCH
AND DEVELOPMENT" jointly organized by The Computer Aided Design (CAD) Centre,
Jadavpur University, Kolkata and Centre For Environment And Economic Development
(CEED) ,New Delhi (A Research Institution Affiliated to NITI Aayog,Govt. of India) held on
27th & 28th December,2018 at Jadavpur University, Kolkata. Apart from the above I have
completed various workshops , seminars and courses on ISRO Outreach Programme For
Eastern Region , Watershed and Development and Application of RS and GIS Techniques
respectively .

My research interests include spatial data structures, spatial databases, and the use of Gis
software tools in devising more efficient methods for the manipulation, display, and analysis
of complicated spatial data. My prior academic background has focused on Gis & Remote
sensing in forestry and Research design and data analysis, where I maintain an active interest.
I am particularly interested in researching new methods for linking spatial databases with
other, distributed ecological and sensor databases and datasets. I believe there exists great
promise for this type of distributed yet integrated approach to data discovery and analysis.
Besides excelling academically I have also practical experience in the field of GIS and
Remote Sensing with my extensive work in those areas working in a very professional and
research based environment.
