Naples where he studied liberal arts. In 1244 admission to the mendicant order of the Dominicans
against what was planned by his family so his brothers kidnapped him and kept him for more than
a year in the castle of Roccasecca but he managed to escape escaping to Paris

Adultez: the Aquinante was back to Paris because of the opposition raised against his figure and
doctrine at this stage shows his maturity in which he would face three arms of thought: the
Augustinian idealists, headed by John Beckham, the secular anti-medal , directed by Gerardo de
abbville and finally the Averroists whose visible figure was Sergio de Brabante tomas had already
assumed numerous Aristotelian ideas. On the other hand he writes his famous disputed questions
of ethics and some opuscules in response of Juan Beckham and Nicolás de lisieux at the end of his
summa thelogiae.

WORKS:

Summa theologica: Feeds the spirit of God, a tender and enlightened piety, based on solid
foundations, that is, in the knowledge of God, of Christ and of man.
tract issues: This is a very complete selection of the best tracts and disputed issues of Sto. Tomás,
in bilingual edition (Latin and Castilian) very careful, preceded by two introductions and
accompanied by doctrinal notes and high quality techniques.

The sum against the Gentiles: it was a kind of missionary manual and is one of the philosophical
monuments of the Middle Ages.

Scriptum super sententiis: The Aquinas, in his Commentary on the four books of the Sentences of
Pedro Lombardo, asks if the definition of person held by Boethius is applicable in the theological
field to illuminate the nature of the Trinitarian subjects without falling for that reason in a
polytheism, and to affirm also the incarnation of the Word without denying the double nature of
Christ.

The importance for philosophy and theology and for Santo Tomas University

Thomas Aquinas thought that theology is a science, superior to all others, but that it proceeds, like
any other science, from obvious principles that do not need to be demonstrated and that are the
foundation of all demonstration. Undoubtedly, the principles of theology are not self-evident for
man, since they are the "articles of faith"; but they are for God: theology, then, is a science
subordinated to divine science. St. Thomas established the relationship between the two sciences
from the distinction of its formal object: while theology starts from the revealed truths, philosophy
rests on the laws of natural reason. This delimitation does not prevent that, in occasions, they
coincide in the material object. Revealed truths enter, in fact, into the sphere of interest of
philosophy, as is the case of the existence of God that, apart from being known by Revelation, can
be demonstrated by rational discourse. The revealed truth has more authority, since there is no
error in revelation. Theology and philosophy are two ways of accessing the only truth: the
knowledge of God.

In conclusion St. Thomas will follow the explanation of the knowledge offered by Aristotle. The
senses perceive the immediate reality transmitted this perception to the mind, appear the images
(phantasmata), which are stored in the memory. This image remains a concrete and particular
