Safety Instructions
Safety Instructions
Before using the CPOL, carefully read the following safety instructions. It is not
recommended that the CPOL be used without understanding the information in
this manual. If some points of the safety instructions are unclear, please contact
OMICRON electronics.
Safe Operation
• Voltage with reference to earth must not exceed 300Vrms on either
measuring probe of the CPOL.
• Never operate the CPOL with an open battery compartment. A life-
hazardous voltage level may occur in the battery compartment if the CPOL’s
probes touch a test point with high voltage potential !

Danger to life:
Voltage with reference to earth must not exceed 300Vrms on either measuring
probe of the CPOL.
Function
In order to check a series of test points for correct polarity, the OMICRON test
set injects a special polarity test signal at a certain location. This signal can
either be a voltage or a current signal, and has a signal characteristic similar to
a saw-tooth signal with a different steepness for the rising and the falling slope.
The OMICRON test set can be a CMC or a CPC 100 test set and is controlled
by the respective software, the CPC 100 or the Test Universe software.

☺ If the CPOL detects the same signal characteristic at a test point, it considers
the polarity as OK, and lights up the green LED.
If the signal characteristic is inverted or distorted, the CPOL considers the
polarity not OK, and lights up the red LED.
☺+ If the CPOL detects a signal that is too low, both LEDs light up at the same time.
Remedy: increase the signal magnitude.
Note: If you detect a wrong polarity in the current path, turn off the OMICRON
test set first. Only then disconnect the terminals.
If you are in doubt whether your measurement is correct, you can confirm it by
reversing the probes of the CPOL. In that case, the other LED should light up.

3. Insert the two lower batteries first (next to the covers’ "—" symbol), and push
them all the way in. Make sure you insert them with the "plus" pole going in
first, the "minus" pole pointing towards the compartment’s open cover.
Then insert the two upper batteries (next to the covers’s "+" symbol), and
push them all the way in. Make sure you insert them with the "minus" pole
going in first, the "plus" pole pointing towards the compartment’s open cover.
4. Close the battery compartment’s cover tightly until it snaps into position.
5. Press CPOL’s ON push-button. Both polarity LEDs ☺ + should light up
steadily, and the red LED above the product designation CPOL flashes
shortly.
