HISTORY
➢1947 – Only 3 units located at Lahore, Rawalpindi and Peshawar
➢The discovery of antibiotics, tranquilizers etc changed all the dynamics and
Pakistan had to import these new expensive medicines from western
countries
➢Government suspended import license and encouraged local
manufacturing
➢By 1954, there were 15 pharmaceutical industrial units. The number
rose to 31 in the coming year and by 1960, Pakistan had 60 units.
