The substitution of “Jaya” in our name --- replacing “Jakarta” --- is the result of an
agreement we reached with Jakarta Government, following the protest over the use of
“Jakarta” in our name.
We hope this does not create any confusion among our royal consumers. While this
represents a change from our initial name introduction, it does not change the quality
of products we offer to our consumers.

Dear Joanne,
I really want to thank you for all of the trouble you went to entertaining the entire family
over the past holiday season.
I know that you organize these holiday gatherings because you enjoy doing it and you
love to have everyone get together at your place. Nevertheless, I just want to make sure
that you understand how much the rest of us appreciate everything you do to make these
get-togethers happen.
Having helped Susan organize a few much smaller social gatherings over the years I
know how much work is involved. I realize how much planning and preparation you
must have to do each and every year so that the entire extended family and assorted
friends and acquaintances have a happy and fun holiday celebration. It's amazing really,
that you are able to do such a great job, year after year, in parallel with your other duties,
both as a mom and an active volunteer worker!
So Joanne, on behalf of everyone I want to express my sincere thanks to you for all that
you do to assemble and entertain us during the holiday season. You really are the glue
that holds our extended family together! With love and admiration,
John
The current bridge stands at the western end of the Pool of London and is positioned 30

Cathedral on the southern shore. Until Putney Bridge opened in 1729, London Bridge was the
only road-crossing of the Thames downstream of Kingston upon Thames. London Bridge has
been depicted in its several forms, in art, literature, and songs, including the nursery rhyme

Keller was afflicted at the age of 19 months with an illness (possibly scarlet fever) that left her
blind and deaf. She was examined by Alexander Graham Bell at the age of 6. As a result, he sent
to her a 20-year-old teacher, Anne Sullivan (Macy) from the Perkins Institution for the Blind in
Boston, which Bell’s son-in-law directed. Sullivan, a remarkable teacher, remained with Keller
from March 1887 until her own death in October 1939.
Within months Keller had learned to feel objects and associate them with words spelled out by
finger signals on her palm, to read sentences by feeling raised words on cardboard, and to make
her own sentences by arranging words in a frame. During 1888–90 she spent winters at the
Perkins Institution learning Braille. Then she began a slow process of learning to speak under
Sarah Fuller of the Horace Mann School for the Deaf, also in Boston. She also learned to lip-
read by placing her fingers on the lips and throat of the speaker while the words were
simultaneously spelled out for her. At age 14 she enrolled in the Wright-Humason School for the
Deaf in New York City, and at 16 she entered the Cambridge School for Young Ladies in
Massachusetts. She won admission to Radcliffe College in 1900 and graduated cum laude in
1904.
Having developed skills never approached by any similarly disabled person, Keller began to
write of blindness, a subject then taboo in women’s magazines because of the relationship of
many cases to venereal disease. Edward W. Bok accepted her articles for the Ladies’ Home
Journal, and other major magazines—The Century, McClure’s, and The Atlantic Monthly—
followed suit.
She wrote of her life in several books, including The Story of My Life (1903), Optimism (1903),
The World I Live In (1908), My Religion (1927), Helen Keller’s Journal (1938), and The Open
Door (1957). In 1913 she began lecturing (with the aid of an interpreter), primarily on behalf of
the American Foundation for the Blind, for which she later established a $2 million endowment
fund, and her lecture tours took her several times around the world. She cofounded the American
Civil Liberties Union with American civil rights activist Roger Nash Baldwin and others in
1920. Her efforts to improve treatment of the deaf and the blind were influential in removing the
disabled from asylums. She also prompted the organization of commissions for the blind in 30
states by 1937. Keller’s childhood training with Anne Sullivan was depicted in William
Gibson’s play The Miracle Worker (1959), which won the Pulitzer Prize in 1960 and was
subsequently made into a motion picture (1962) that won two Academy Awards.

Around 19 kilometers (12 miles) after takeoff, it made a request to air traffic control to return to the
airport but did not indicate there was any emergency.
Radar data shows that the plane did not turn back, and air traffic controllers lost contact with it soon
after, Yohanes Sirait, spokesman for AirNav Indonesia, the agency that oversees air traffic navigation,
told CNN.
David Soucie, a former safety inspector with the US Federal Aviation Administration, said the fact
that an emergency wasn't declared should be a cause for concern.
"What's most peculiar to me is the fact that they didn't declare an emergency. They just simply said,
'We're going back'," said Soucie, a CNN safety analyst.
"But when I look at the track of the aircraft after that, the aircraft made a very steep dive after that
which is not typical of what they would've done," he added. "They would have maintained altitude
and made that turn and come back to (the airport)."
A pilot who flew the doomed aircraft from Bali to Jakarta the day before it crashed reported a
problem with one of the instruments mid-flight, NTSC deputy director Satmiko told CNN. Satmiko
had listened to a recorded conversation with air traffic control regarding the problem.
Satmiko said that Lion Air told the NTSC the problem had been fixed.
The airport, runway and weather have been excluded as points of focus for the investigation, he
added, and all attention has turned to the aircraft, pilots, other personnel, and Lion Air's company
policies.
AirNav Indonesia said the flight would have been given a priority landing spot had it declared an
emergency.

The following text is for questions number 40 - 43
In the morning, the wife told his husband about the dream she had last night. “I was walking through a
vast field, and I came to a lake. I saw a giant hedgehog in the lake. It was glaring at me, so I ran
away.” After he heard his wife’s dream, the farmer went back to the small pond. In the pond, he saw
something very shiny. He came to the shiny object and took it. It was a golden hedgehog statue. It was
very beautiful. Its eyes were made of diamond. The farmer then brought the statue home.
At night, the farmer had a dream. A giant hedgehog came to him, “Please let me stay in your home.
As return, I will give you everything you want. Just caress the statue’s head and say the prayer. There
are two kinds of prayers, one is to start your wish and the second is to stop your wish. Now memorize
the prayers.”
In the next day, the farmer told his wife about his dream. They really wanted to prove it. The farmer
slowly caressed the statue's head. He said the prayer and asked for rice. Suddenly, rice came out of the
mouth of the statue. The rice kept on coming out from the statue's mouth. The farmer immediately
said the prayer to stop it. The rice then stopped coming out from the statue.
The farmer and his wife then asked for other things, jewelry and other stuff they needed. They became
very rich. But they still like to help other people. A lot of poor came to them for help. Unfortunately, a
thief found out about the secret of the golden hedgehog statue. Pretending to be a poor asking for
help, he stole the statue from the farmer’s house.
The thief blurred to the district area of Ngabang. There was a drought in the area. The thief wanted
sympathy from the people, so he said to them that he would provide them with water. The thief then
caressed the hedgehog statue and said the prayer. Water came out of the statue’s mouth. All the
people were so happy. But the water kept on coming out. The thief didn’t know the prayer to stop the
wish. People who saw the incident were really scared. They ran away to avoid the water as it was
started to flood the area. The thief also wanted to run away, but he cannot move his legs. In his vision,
there was a giant hedgehog holding both his legs. Water kept coming from the statue and slowly it
became a river. The thief was drowned in the river. People then named the river as Hedgehog River or
Sungai Landak.

Ants are eusocial insects of the family Formicidae and, along with the related wasps
and bees, belong to the order Hymenoptera. Ants evolved from wasp-like ancestors in
the Cretaceous period, about 140 million years ago, and diversified after the rise of
flowering plants. More than 12,500 of an estimated total of 22,000 species have been
classified. They are easily identified by their elbowed antennae and the distinctive
node-like structure that forms their slender waists.
Ants form colonies that range in size from a few dozen predatory individuals living in
small natural cavities to highly organized colonies that may occupy large territories
and consist of millions of individuals. Larger colonies consist of various castes of
sterile, wingless females, most of which are workers (ergates), as well as soldiers
(dinergates) and other specialized groups. Nearly all ant colonies also have some
fertile males called "drones" (aner) and one or more fertile females called "queens"
(gynes). The colonies are described as superorganisms because the ants appear to
operate as a unified entity, collectively working together to support the colony.
Ants have colonized almost every landmass on Earth. The only places lacking
indigenous ants are Antarctica and a few remote or inhospitable islands. Ants thrive in
most ecosystems and may form 15–25% of the terrestrial animal biomass. Their
success in so many environments has been attributed to their social organization and
their ability to modify habitats, tap resources, and defend themselves. Their long co-
evolution with other species has led to mimetic, commensal, parasitic, and mutualistic
relationships.
Ant societies have division of labour, communication between individuals, and an
ability to solve complex problems. These parallels with human societies have long
been an inspiration and subject of study. Many human cultures make use of ants in
cuisine, medication, and rituals. Some species are valued in their role as biological
pest control agents. Their ability to exploit resources may bring ants into conflict with
humans, however, as they can damage crops and invade buildings. Some species, such
as the red imported fire ant (Solenopsis invicta), are regarded as invasive species,
establishing themselves in areas where they have been introduced accidentally.
In fact, approximately 87 percent of the respondents of this study were of the opinion that
abolition of death penalty would have no major impact on crime rates in the country as
such.
On the contrary, several criminologists are of the opinion that the deterrent effect of
punishment in itself is one of the several factors which makes a person indulge in crime,
and doing away with it can help us bring down the crime rate by a significant extent. The
example of Canada wherein the homicide rate declined after abolition of death penalty in
1976 is often used by these people to support their opinion. One has to also give a thought
to the fact that those criminals who resort to a great deal of planning to commit some
crime will never get affected by the threat of being caught and convicted. Similar would
be the case when it comes to crimes by mentally affected people or children for whom
death penalty will seldom act as a deterrent.
47. The purpose of the text....
A. to inform about the threat of punishment
B. to discuss pros and cons of the death penalty
C. to explain the deterrent effect of death penalty
D. to persuade people to agree with death penalty
E. to share the information dealing of death penalty
50. “Even though the effectiveness of death penalty as a crime deterrent has been used to
gain support for this concept for quite some time now...”
The synonym of the underlined word is....
A. prevention
B. demolition
C. destruction
D. commitment
E. determination
