A paragraph is a sentence or group of sentences that support one main idea. We will refer to this as the
“controlling idea,” because it controls what happens in the rest of the paragraph.

1. Brain storming: In this step, you should think and write down any ideas about the topic you
want to write ago.
2. Organizing your ideas: in this step you should organize your ideas by creating cluster or an
outline bout what you want to write.
3. Writing the first draft: In this step, you should write your paragraph for the 1st time, not
taking much into account about cohesion, coherence, grammar and spellings.
4. Editing: In this step, you should revised all the errors about coherence and cohesion that your
paragraph may have.
5. Final work: In this step, you should revise all the grammar and the spelling errors. The
paragraph is done.
Types of Paragraphs
Descriptive paragraph
Narrative paragraph
Persuasive paragraph
Informative paragraph
Descriptive paragraph: This type of paragraph is written in such a way to describe something with
words that allow your reader to imagine the scene what your describing.it is the text full of detailed
observation. The word chosen in the description of an appeal to the five senses of touch, smell, taste,
sight and sound.
Narrative paragraph: It is a group of sentences that tells a story, it tells about a series of events and
actions. These events are arranged in time sequence with definite beginning, middle and end. Narratives
also have characters and setting, as well as a narrator or a person from whose point of the story is told.
Persuasive paragraph: it tries to convince the reader that a particular point of view is worthy of
consideration .it wants you to consider the both side of an issue.
Informative paragraph: it is a paragraph that explains and analyses a topic giving you information,
explanation, facts or an illustration.

Qualities:
Unity: singleness or "oneness" of purpose. All the detail sentences clearly point to or support
the topic sentence. It should be about one main topic.
Bad example:
Coherence: All the sentences and ideas in the paragraph flow smoothly together to make clear
and logical points about the topic. Coherence can be achieved through the use of:

> Time Order: Arranging details or sentences as they happen according to time; usually used
in writing narratives.

Cohesion: all the supporting sentences connect to each other and to the topic sentence. Use
