Discuss how teenagers can overcome their stress

Teenagers are occupied with a myriad of things in their daily life. They have to cope with a lot of school
homework, attend tuition class, squeeze in extracurricular activities, hang out with friends and care for
family members as well. Having too many things to do can be overwhelming and lead to high stress
level which take a toll on their health. Therefore, it is important to manage stress for better well-being.
There are several ways that teenagers can overcome their stress.

Doing some physical activity is one of the most effective stress busters. Teenager can find outdoor
activities that they enjoy such as cycling, jogging and hiking. They should engage in these activities 3 or
4 times a week. Joining a sports club could also help with stress as the regular contact with other people
could help improve your mood. The best types of physical exercise are those which can be conducted in
pairs or group. Just beware of the competitive sports if we tend to become angry when playing to win.
Pick a sport to help us relax, not increase our stress.

Teenagers do have to limit themselves to join in physical activities. Simple, indoor activities such as
drawing, writing, reading or cooking can be great stress-reliever too. These can have a calming effect on
mind. It will help to relax our tensed mind. At the same time, it can nurture creative skills at the same
time.

Time management is crucial in helping to manage stress. The pressure usually increases when nearing
examination week. So, teenager should plan their study schedule ahead to monitor their progress. They
should determine what subjects will require more time to study and allocate enough time for that. By
doing this, students will not feel as though they have a pile of material to cram in before going into the
exam hall. Studying in groups is a good idea. You can discuss what you do not know with your friends
and motivate each other to study

Getting enough sleep is equally important. Between homework, activities and hanging out with friends, it
can be hard to get adequate sleep, especially during the school week. Teenagers need more sleep than
adults to function well during the day. According to study, a teenager needs an average 8 hours of sleep
per night. Besides, the quality of sleep they get during this period is important too. Waking up in between
one’s sleep can increase stress level. So, teenager can improve their stress level by cutting back on
watching TV or playing phone before bedtime. They should also avoid drinking coffee after dinner to
reduce stimulation

Last but not least, you should practice good study skills. Making notes and mind – mapping are good
studying techniques. Make a checklist that helps you to monitor how far you are with revision. If you feel
distressed or have some difficulties , seek advice from your teacher or counsellor. Nobody in this world
is living a problem-free life. Students are not exempted. So if they have problems, they should talk about
their problems to people whom they can trust. Parents are the best persons to talk to. Others whom they
can seek advice from are teachers and counsellors. A wise friend may help too. Talking to someone will
make the problem lighter and bearable.

Reducing stress in teenagers’ everyday life is vital for maintaining their overall health, as it can improve
their mood, boost immune system, promote longevity and allow them to be more productive. Therefore,
teenagers should know how to manage their stress.
