Color
Primary Neutral Accent
• Color is a powerful tool that is central to the
HP Experience and also creates an opportunity
to establish hierarchy.
• There are three types of color: primary, neutral
and accent.
• Colors should be used consistently.
• Never use the default PowerPoint theme colors
or any colors that are not part of the approved
HP theme color palette.

7 © Copyright 2013 Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P. The information contained herein is subject to change without notice.
Color

Primary colors
HP blue and white are the two primary colors. They signal one HP and are to be used in most
communications.
• Use HP blue and white in headlines and backgrounds as well as in icons and charts.
• HP blue is unique to HP and is bright, bold and courageous.
Neutral colors
Neutral colors can be used for pacing, text, headlines, backgrounds and content in information
graphics.
• Medium gray can also be used effectively in headlines as an alternative to HP blue and black.
• Light gray is not recommended for use in any text (headline, subhead or body copy) because it creates
problems with legibility.
• Black can be used in headlines, subheads and body copy. Black is never to be used as a background color.

Color

Accent colors
Use the accent colors to add a dash of color to complement the primary and secondary colors.
• Use accent colors sparingly.
• Do not mix accent colors together, as that goes against our visual identity system.
• Do not use color gradations; use only tints of colors as specified in the information graphics guidelines.
• Do not use orange for information graphics.

Font

Typography plays an important role in our brand expression. It is an integral part of the way
we communicate, which is with a courageous, personal and bright voice. Our system uses a
custom-designed, proprietary typeface called HP Simplified. We use HP Simplified globally and
across all communications. If HP Simplified is not available in your local language, then refer to
the alternate language font plan within the typography guidelines on the HP Experience Center.

Customer-facing presentations should use HP Simplified. To ensure that the HP Experience is

always represented consistently, save your file as a PDF or as a PowerPoint with embedded font
for reading only when sharing externally.

Our imagery is editorial in style, with a focus on the underlying fabric of life that connects HP with
the world. Our imagery is not literal. It is representative, reflecting who we are and the benefits of

The standard 16:9 template is for primary use, and it should be used whenever possible.
The 4:3 ratio template is for limited usage only in cases where there are technology/system
platform constraints, such as a webcast.
Event template
Events such as large, keynote presentations require a slightly adjusted template to adapt
to powerful projector technology and screen brightness. The background in this template
has been adjusted to a lighter gray, but will look white once projected on screen to optimize
clarity and viewing comfort. Use the approved PowerPoint event template for presentations
in bigger venues.

PowerPoint
• To begin, select new file and my template
tab (folder).
• Double click on your selected template (.potx) and
start your presentation.

Transitioning old presentations into this template

1. Open the new 2013 HP PowerPoint template in MS 2007.

2. Go to the slide sorter and copy all slides from the existing
file, then paste them into the new template file’s slide
sorter. Make sure you choose “Use Destination Theme”
from the clipboard.
3. Click on each slide and allocate the appropriate layout from
the new template to apply the proper master settings.
Sometimes the text will not format properly; this is because
it is not part of a standard Content Placeholder.
To solve this, follow these steps:
1. Select the original text, cut the text (CTRL-X), and delete the empty
text placeholder.
2. Within the new selected layout, paste (CTRL-V) the text in the
placeholder and choose “Keep text only” to remove old formatting.
3. Click on “Reset” from the “Home” menu to reset the slide and the
text will format. If the text is too large for the Text Placeholder,
follow the presentation text guidance to reduce and/or resize your
text to fit.

Content slides

When creating a PowerPoint presentation, do

not overload slides with information. Simple
presentations are usually the most effective.
With large amounts of information, spread
relevant content over more than one slide into
smaller bits of information, rather than
crowding content on a single slide.
• Maintain white space as consistently as possible
throughout your presentation.
• Avoid running type or graphics into the margin.
• Make every attempt to refine and simplify your
message to fit within the margins.
